Northern Illinois and new head coach Matt Majkrzak have gone on a serious run of landing commitments for their 2027 class. This includes Zeak Jones, a 6’4” guard of Dominican High School (WI) and Team Hali, who has recently made his commitment to the Huskies.
Northern Illinois is landing one of the top scorers in Wisconsin’s 2027 class. In his junior season, Zones averaged 25.8 points per game while shooting 49.2% from the field and 38.7% from three. This is in addition to 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1 steal per game. With this Jones earned himself all-state honors from the WBCA.
The commitment comes after Jones was offered by Northern Illinois back in beginning of April. He was also offered by Bethune-Cookman, Eastern Illinois, Green Bay, La Salle, Milwaukee, Northwestern State, Queens University, and Wyoming. “It just felt like the right place for me,” Jones said about his selection. “From the start the coaches believed in me and showed they had a real plan for how I could grow as a player. The relationships I built with the coaching staff meant a lot and I could see myself being a part of what they’re building. It felt like home.”
The commitment comes after Jones recently took his visit to Northern Illinois on June 24th. When asked about his visit, he said “it honestly made my decision a lot easier. Everybody welcomed me and my family and I got to spend time with the coaches, staff and got to sit down and watch a practice. Being on campus seeing the facilities and getting a feel for the culture showed me it was somewhere I wanted to be.”
On his future of playing for Northern Illinois, Jones stated “I think my game fits really well with what they want to do. I take pride in competing on both ends of the floor whether that’s scoring, making plays for my teammates, or defending. I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my game and doing whatever I can to help the team win.”
Jones is now one of five players in Northern Illinois’ 2027 recruiting class. It also includes Austin Luchetti, Mike Rogers, Will Stremlow, and Levi Webb. Each of these five made their commitments to the Huskies over just the past couple of weeks.
