The recruitment of Austin Luchetti quickly came along over the past several days. Just a few days after landing his first division one offers, the 6’7” forward of Monona Grove High School and the Wisconsin Playmakers has announced his college pick.
On Friday, Luchetti made his college decision. The rising senior selected Northern Illinois University. The Huskies had just offered him at the end of June. He was also offered by Green Bay at the end of June too, these were his first two division one offers.
While Northern Illinois had just offered Luchetti recently, his recruitment from current Northern Illinois head coach Matt Majkrzak goes further back. Majkrzak has offered Luchetti last spring when he was the head coach at Northern Michigan. The forward also had another division two offer from Lake Superior State.
“I like the coaching staff and am familiar with the guys in my class that are also committed,” Luchetti said about choosing Northern Illinois. He joins a Wisconsin heavy recruiting class for the Huskies in 2027 as Majkrzak continues to recruit the state of Wisconsin extremely well. Their class from Wisconsin also includes guard Will Stremlow, Mike Rogers, and Zeak Jones. This is in addition to Levi Webb, a guard from Nebraska. Each of these players made their commitment over the past couple of weeks.
On why he decided to make his commitment so soon after receiving his offer from Northern Illinois, Luchetti said “I decided to commit because I think it is a great opportunity and I didn't want to miss out on it.” For his future playing for the Huskies, he said “I think Coach Majkrzak know how to utilize players with my skill set and will be able to contribute in a lot of ways.”
