With his play from his freshman season and now into the spring and summer seasons, Ronald Johnson has continued to show he’s one of the top players in Illinois’ 2029 class. This has resulted in the point guard of Mt. Carmel and Mac Irvin Fire getting an early start on his recruitment.
Last month in June, Johnson received his first division one offer. This offer came from Western Illinois University. “It felt great,” he said about getting his first offer. “I was very grateful and blessed because it showed me that my hard work is being noticed. It also motivated me to keep working because I know this is only the beginning.” When asking him on his early thoughts on Western Illinois, he said “I like that they saw something in me early and believed in my potential. I’m still learning more about the school, but I’m excited to get to know the coaches and the program better.”
“A big guard, who can do it all on the court. I am a leader on the court, who’s a great talker and a winner,” Johnson said describing his own game. Not only does Johnson have good size in the backcourt while standing at 6’3” with a strong build, he has also shown good point guard abilities too. He plays very poised and under control with the ball at all times. As well to being a skilled facilitator with good vision, he has also shown a well-rounded scoring ability himself while exceling playing on the attack. This is with an outside jump shot that is becoming more consistent.
Whether it has been with the Mac Irvin Fire over the spring or during the June live periods with Mt. Carmel, he has continued to show he’s one of the top guards in Illinois and should see his recruitment grow as he progresses through his high school career.
