Throughout his time at Iowa State, TJ Otzelberger has continued to recruit the state of Wisconsin extremely well landing many of its top prospects over the past few years. The newest addition for the Cyclones from Wisconsin came from Jack Kohnen, a 6’6” wing of Slinger High School and Team Herro.
Iowa State is landing a player who averaged 20.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists to earn all-state honors in his junior season from the WBCA. During the spring season on the Nike EYBL with Team Herro, Kohnen averaged 10.9 points while shooting 48.9% from the field and 43.2 from three healing them to a 9-2 record. This is in addition to 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals.
In just the 2027 class, this is the second recruit Iowa State has landed from the state of Wisconsin. The other being Donovan Davis, a Team Herro teammate of Kohnen. Other players Otzelberger and Iowa State have landed recently from Wisconsin include Yusef Gray, Jamarion Batemon, Xzavion Mitchell, Milan Momcilovic, among others.
Iowa State was one of the first schools to had offered Kohnen doing so all the way back in September of 2024. He chose the Cyclones over a lengthy list of other high major suitors. The other programs to had offered him included Indiana, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa, Wake Forest, Nebraska, Marquette, and others.
Along with Donovan Davis, Kohnen is another nationally ranked recruit to add to their 2027 class. Kohnen is consensus top one hundred nationally ranked player by Rivals, ESPN, and 247 Sports. Iowa State also has a commitment from another top one hundred nationally ranked player in Josiah Harrington to make it one of the top classes in program history already.
