Plenty more standouts from the weekend’s NY2LA Next Level Invitational as we move to part two.
Donovan Calloway – 2027 – G – MTXE
Calloway was one of the top scorers and shooters of the tournament. This included having games of 21 points and 18 points while also showing the ability to create for others. The quick guard scored it well both with his shooting as well as getting to the basket. In one of his high scoring games, he hit four threes but in another he was consistently getting all the way to the basket slicing through the defense. Calloway moves extremely well with both with his quickness and ability to change direction getting by defenders or creating his own shot.
KJ Cross – 2027 – G/F – Wisconsin Dynasty
It was another standout tournament for Cross who scored it extremely well throughout the tournament. This included three games with 19 or more points including one with 26 points as his well-rounded scoring ability has continued to grow. His outside shooting has become more consistent as he hit several threes during the tournament including one while taking a hard foul. He also scored it as an aggressive downhill driver using his strength to score it plus draw plenty of fouls. Cross also scored it as a cutter, on put backs, and in transition.
Colin Julien – 2027 – G – Chapman Basketball Academy
Julien showed so many of his abilities throughout the tournament to help CBA go undefeated at 4-0. He is a long and athletic 6’3” guard with a high skill level. Throughout the tournament, Julien shot the ball very well from the outside including being able to create his own shot. The junior who has several division one offers also showed a good ability to be a primary ball hander and be a facilitator in addition to active on ball defense and rebounding it well.
Eli Krueger – 2027 – F/C – Wisconsin Swing
Not only does Krueger have great size at 6’10” but also tremendous offensive tools. In the tournament he scored 22 points in a game as he scores it so effectively posting up as well as being a consistent spot up shooter from three. As well to his scoring, Krueger is such a skilled passer as well whether on the perimeter or in the post.
Jamal Pickering – 2026 – G/F – Gxfted Elite
Pickering has continued to shine this spring and continued to do so here in a 3-1 weekend. This included taking over a game in which he scored 19 points in just the second half to lead his team to the win. The available senior is an incredibly explosive 6’5” wing which was greatly showcased by plenty of highlight reel dunks. He also plays with some strength being able to play physical attacking and finish the ball at a high percentage all around the paint.
Chris Watts – 2028 – PG – Chapman North
While he had multiple standout games, the 2028-point guard really excelled in a win on Saturday in which he scored 24 points which included 13 points in just the first 6 minutes of play. Watts is a highly skilled scorer who showed a good ability to create for himself. This included good moves getting to the basket for some and one finishes finishing versus size, step back jumpers in the mid-range and hitting threes off the dribble. He is an elusive guard who moves so well with the ball both beating defenders as well as creating separation.
McKhale Wesley – 2027 – G – Team Hali
As well to having games of 21 points and 17 points, Wesley was also a standout with his defensive play in a 4-0 tournament record. He’s an athletic guard with some size at 6’3” and a versatile game. The junior showed a very good ability to score it both attacking the basket as well with his outside shooting in addition to being able to run the point. This included down the stretch of a win Sunday where he was just taking over consistently getting into the paint creating plenty of plays.
