There were many players at the 16U level of this weekend’s NY2LA Spring Extravaganza making a name for themselves. Here are just a few of them.
Wyatt Ball – 2028 – SG – D Rice Elite
It was another standout tournament of shooting for Ball. After being one of the top shooters at the Grassroots Showcase last month, he once again was here helping his team to a 4-0 record. In just his first half of his first game, he got off to a hot start shooting the ball already hitting a trio of threes. As well to his knockdown shooting, Ball also rebounded it well as a guard in addition to being able to handle the ball and playing well driving and facilitating it out.
Max Crimmings – 2028 – F – Wisconsin Academy
Crimmings is a 6’5” forward who has a strong build and plenty of toughness and energy to be impactful on both ends. In his opening game of the tournament, he scored 19 points and then scored 16 points in his next game. He showed some good moves posting up and was able to finish versus size inside. Cummings is a highly competitive forward playing aggressive defensively inside forcing a lot of tough shots around him as well as being very physical on the glass just outworking everyone else.
Kale Graff – 2028 – G – Wisconsin Legends
Graff hit a three on his first play of the tournament and kept playing well from there. This included scoring 14 or more points in each of his four game in a 3-1 weekend. He also distributed it very well with three games of five or more assists. Graff is a skilled guard who shoots it well from the outside hitting three threes in his opening game but also plays smart with the ball in his hands and sees the floor well. He can run the point, plays with good energy defensively being tough to beat, and hit a game winning free throw in the tournament.
Caden Hagerstrom – 2028 – SF – Wisconsin Blizzard
Hagerstrom showed a variety of tools in a 4-0 weekend for the Blizzard including scoring 19 points in his opening game. He has some positional size as a 6’6” wing forward along with playing with some physicality. He was a very effective scorer finishing it strong at the basket with good footwork and scoring through contact as well as being effective playing in the mid-post. As well as being a strong driving from the perimeter using his frame to power to the basket while also being able to handle the ball.
Micah Lauffer – 2028 – SF – M14 Hoops
Lauffer is a high energy wing that was one of the more impactful players at the 16U level. Not only did he score 16 points in his opening game of the tournament but did plenty more. He is an efficient scorer who can put up points in a variety of ways. Especially on the attack finishing well around the paint finishing amongst size as well as pulling up in the mid-range. Lauffer also collected a few assists in this game as a distributor on the attack and from the inside. Defensively, he plays so hard along with his toughness being able to play big inside even while giving up some size to be effective in the paint.
Cam Paulson – 2028 – G – Minnesota Magic
The 6’2” combo guard shined in an opening game helping the Magic to a win with a few key plays in the final minutes. As well to scoring 16 points, Paulson also distributed it well. He is a high IQ guard with a well-rounded offensive game who sees the floor well. He hit a pair of threes in this game spotting up but also plays well on the attack. Paulson is a good passer on the move both driving to the basket as well as pushing the ball in transition. The skilled guard showed good moves and footwork being able to finish around the paint amongst size.
Kameron Shannon – 2028 – F – Reach Legends
Shannon showed plenty of development in his game from last year. Along with his growing skills and great physical tools, he was one of the highest upside players there at the 16U level. He is a very lengthy and athletic 6’9” forward. Much more than just great positional size, Shannon also showed his growing offensive game. This included hitting a few threes during the tournament as well as being able to handle the ball and attack the basket.
Brennan Truka – 2028 – SG – Ohio Premier
Truka is a skilled scoring guard with a good ability to create for himself. This is especially the case with his jumper. In just his first half of the tournament, Truka had already scored 13 points. He has good range on his jump shot and shoots it well off the dribble and showed a good ability to create his own shot in the mid-range. He moves well with the ball creating separation as well as getting all the way to the basket.
Treylon Weathers-Stone – 2028 – F – Team Hali
The sophomore is a tough and active forward who played big inside on both ends of the floor. He really works on the defensive side both shutting down his man consistently working to deny the ball inside but also as a help defender blocking a few shots in one game. Weathers-Stone is also a very aggressive rebounder on each end outworking larger opponents on each end to rebound it very well. The forward scored it strong around the basket plus leading transition breaks himself taking both rebounds the length of the court as well as his steals. Weathers-Stone also showed the ability to play out on the perimeter and take players off the dribble getting to the basket.
