There are plenty of emerging names to know from the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza at the 16U level who all excelled during the tournament.
Joseph Arnold – 2028 – PG – D Rice Elite
Arnold not only showed his point guard play but also an improved scoring ability in a 4-0 tournament for D Rice Elite. This including scoring a key 10 points in just the second half of one of these wins. The highly elusive point guard scored it well on the attack finishing it well at his size inside as well as with his floater over defenders as well to hitting some threes in the tournament. There are few defenders that can stick with Arnold with his quickness paired with change of speed and direction.
Calvin Barber – 2028 – G – REACH Legends
With games of 24 points and 20 points, Barber was one of the top scorers at the 16U level of the Spring Extravaganza. He is a skilled guard who showed a good ability to create for himself. Barber moves extremely well with the ball and excelled scoring on the attack finishing at the basket as well as around the paint with his floater. He plays with good burst and was often beating defenders off the dribble as well to being effective in transition. The guard also hit several threes in the tournament including being to shoot it off the dribble.
Braylon DeCleene – 2028 – G – Wisconsin Blizzard
In the opening game of the tournament, DeCleene got off to a very hot start. This included scoring the first 7 points of the game and kept on scoring from there to put up 23 points in that game as part of a 4-0 weekend record. He is a skilled guard who plays well both on and off the ball. He moves very well with the ball in his hands getting all the way to the basket and finishing but also hit a couple of threes in that one game.
Detiz Johnson – 2028 – G – Courts Vision Elite
Not only did he score 17 points in a tight game, but also made a ton of plays down the stretch in a win. Johnson has a very good ability create for himself. He is a shifty guard who moves well with the ball beating defenders off the dribble as creating space around the paint. He scored it well hitting shots off the dribble from the outside as well as floaters inside or finishing through contact at the basket. Johnson also made a big impact in this win on the defensive side forcing turnovers with his quickness and defensive intensity.
Kyle Nazos – 2028 – PG – Mercury Elite
While a skilled point guard, Nazos stepped up his scoring ability to amongst the leaders in points at the 16U along with helping his team to a 3-1 record. In the tournament, Nazos had games of 27 points and 20 points as well to another game in which he drilled four threes. He has been a huge stock booster this spring with his array of point guard tools with his high IQ, playing strong with the ball and creating well for others in addition to his knockdown shooting ability.
Azayah Reasby – 2028 – G – Team Hali
Reasby had one of the top scoring performances of the 16 level of the tournament. This was with 24 points. Not only did he put up plenty of points but also came through in the clutch hitting three threes in just the final three minutes of a tight game. In this high scoring game, he showed his ability to be a knockdown shooter hitting six threes while also showing the ability to run the point effectively.
Nick Tempelis – 2028 – SG – Team Herro Elite
From the Swish N’ Dish to the Grassroots Showcase to the NY2LA Sports Invitational to this tournament, Tempelis has continued to shoot and score the ball at a high level. With his scoring ability, Team Herro went 4-0 in the tournament. This included an 18-point game in which he knocked down four threes while shooting it at a high percentage. The 6’3” two guard is a confident shooter who has a pure, compact jumper while spotting up from the outside and is always ready to shoot it. More than just a shooter, Tempelis can also handle the ball and get to the basket as well to being a good passer.
