The talent at the 14U was on display all weekend throughout the Generation Next Invitational as we move onto the next group of the standouts.
Grayson Crow – F/C – Wisconsin Blizzard
The tough interior play of Crow on both ends helped this Blizzard team to a 3-1 tournament. As well to being 6’3”, he also has a strong build. He proved to be tough to defend inside scoring the ball posting up with not just his size but the combination of his strength and good footwork. He was also effective scoring it in transition, put backs as an aggressive rebounder, and rolling to the basket.
Landon Golden – SG – Foundation Gold
The shooting of Golden helped his team to a pair of tight wins during the tournament. This included three threes in a pool play game and then he stepped it up in bracket play hitting four of them in a second-round game. The lengthy guard showed a pure jumper spotting up from three but also hit some off the dribble too. He also came up in the clutch burying a three in the final 90 seconds of play in their bracket win to go up 6 and put the game away. He also showed his high energy of play diving all out on the floor for a loose ball.
Keegan Krull – PG – Davis Brothers Elite
There are not many players at the 14U level with all the skills of Krull. He showed his scoring ability in the championship game leading the way with 15 points but also showed true point guard skills along with being a stat stuffer too. Krull plays strong with the ball in his hands getting into the defense while being a good passer on the attack both in the half court and pushing it in transition. In the championship game, he also rebounded it very well as a guard plus came up with a few steals being active in the passing lanes.
Carter Peck – G/F – CBA West
The all-around play of Peck led CBA West to an opening round bracket play win Saturday. In the win, he led a run in the middle of the second half to pull away. In this run he scored 9 points as in just a few minutes of play he hit a three and scored on three drives to the basket. He is an efficient scorer who has some size on the wings along with a well-rounded offensive skill set.
Joaquin Punzalan – G – Triumph Hoops Academy
In a double-digit win on Saturday, the guard showed his ability to both score and distribute the ball. This included scoring 15 points while also being able to run the point. He plays strong with the ball in his hands, looks to distribute it, and passed it well off the dribble. Punzalan did the most his scoring getting all the way to the basket with good moves but also hit jumpers pulling up in the mid-range as well as spotting up from three.
Max Schlemm – SF – Kessel Heat
Along with being 6’2”, Schlemm is a strong and aggressive forward. He was very active scoring the ball both around the paint and mid-range as a tough mismatch beating defenders in a variety of ways. Whether it was on curl cuts, mid-range jumpers, dives to the basket, or posting up, he was an efficient scorer.
Andrew Vachenko – G – Kessel Heat Red
Vachenko is a well-rounded guard who knows how to play. He defended well on the perimeter sticking well with the ball being tough to beat. Offensively he played well both on and off the ball. The guard showed a good jumper spotting up from three. Though he also moves well with the ball beating defenders to get to the basket as well as hit shots off the dribble in the mid-range.
