We’re moving on to the second group of standouts from this very deep 14U level of twenty four teams from the Generation Next Invitational.
Ronmel Ferguson – G – Black Mambas
Ferguson is a guard with some size along with playmaking on both sides of the ball. This included his ability to get to the basket. He is a tough attacking guard with good moves consistently beating defenders off the dribble getting all the way to the basket. Defensively, Ferguson defended well both in the full court and half court. He moves well sticking with the ball and uses his size and length to pressure ballhandlers effectively.
Dylan Nowak – G/F – Wisconsin Legends
Nowak really showed his scoring ability right from the start of the tournament as he scored 15 points in the first half alone of his first game on Friday. This was done with his true versatile scoring ability as he got it done in a variety of ways. Nowak uses his physicality well around the paint finishing, showed a smooth jumper spotting up from three, was effective scoring out of the mid-post, and took rebounds the length of the court.
Miracovsky Pierre – F/C – H-A-L Elite
With the tough interior play of Pierre, H-A-L Elite got all the way to the title game. He has great physical tools as he already stands at 6’5” along with a very strong build. He is also an athletic big man that plays with some aggressiveness. With all this, he was both one of the top interior scorers as well as rebounders as an overpowering force in the paint on both ends. Pierre both scored it at a high rate of his paint touches as well to being a true paint protector blocking plenty of shots during the tournament.
Benjamin Skrajny – F/C – Triumph Hoops Academy
Skrajny was one of the top post scorers of the entire tournament. This was displayed on Saturday in which he scored 19 points leading his team to an opening round bracket play game. The lengthy post showed good touch around the basket while also being able to finish through contact. Skrajny showed good moves scoring the ball posting up while also getting to the line often. He also ran the floor hard to score it in transition. He is also energetic on the glass attacking rebounds plus made some good passes leading transition break as well as hitting cutters in the half court.
Russel Stamper III – SG – ABP Athletics
The wing guard one of the more versatile scorers of the tournament. In a 16-point performance, Stamper was beating defenders in every way. He can create well for himself both attacking the basket as well as hitting shots in the mid-range. Stamper also shot it well spotting up from three but would also go inside and post up smaller guards to score it. He also contributed driving to distribute the ball as well as his active defensive play with multiple steals and deflections in one game.
Graham VanEss – G – The Shore
VanEss is a lengthy guard with a well-rounded offensive skill set. He handles the ball well and can run the point while looking to distribute it out. Though also shoots it very well from the outside. This included hitting four threes in a close win Saturday. VanEss also scored it getting all the way to the basket where he finished it well plus got to the paint often. The guard was a big reason his team got all the way to the semifinals with some impressive wins.
Jaxon Zovistoski – G/F – Kessel Heat
The lengthy 6’1” wing had one of the top shooting displays of the tournament. This came down the stretch of a tight game where Zovistoski was hitting all his jumpers while pulling up in the mid-range. He was hitting tough contested jumpers using his length to hit shots right over defenders. The wing was also able to score it effectively getting all the way to the basket.
