After featuring Will Stremlow, Markese Peoples, Kyler Payne, Cruz Mactavish, and Landon Lethunya in the first edition of this series, here are the next five up who are all having tremendous spring grassroots seasons and need to be on more college coaches’ radars.
Nathan Freiheit – 2027 – C – PAC Elite
Freiheit has consistently been having a good spring with PAC Elite with several standout games between multiple tournaments in April. This includes a game winning basket at the Grassroots Showcase. He stands out first with his elite height being a seven-footer. Though he has continued to build his play and impact along with being a mobile big man. Not only can he use his size to make plays inside on both ends but can also be a stretch big hitting the three consistently.
Daniel Morakinyo – 2027 – G – Lockdown
If Morakinyo continues to play like he did last weekend at the NY2LA Sports Invitational, college coaches will defiantly want to see him. He had one of the top performances of the tournament in a tight game. In this one game not only did he hit four threes but also showed a good ability to create his own shot hitting some contested jumpers off the dribble. Along with his shot making ability, the 6’2” guard also creates well for others and has a college ready body.
Jamal Pickering – 2026 – G/F – Gxfited Elite
While playing for Southeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschool, Pickering has been a highly under the radar player in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. He has been having a breakout spring for Gxfted Elite helping them go 3-0 at the Grassroots Showcase and then 4-0 at the NY2LA Sports Invitational. He is a highly versatile player with a well-rounded offensive game, positional size at 6’5” along with a solid build and defend multiple positions very effectively.
Paul Ridgway – 2027 – SF – DistinXion
With his play this spring along with his translatable tools for the next level, Ridgway has picked up his first couple of college offers. These came from DePauw and then Southeastern Illinois college. Along with his size of being a 6’6” wing, Ridgway has a well-rounded skill set. The athletic wing has a versatile offensive game with his ability to attack the basket and well as score it in the post but also shows a growing outside shooting game. This is in addition to his ability being big on the glass as well as playing with tremendous energy.
Derek Williams – 2028 – SF – Team Hali
While an under the radar player with all his abilities, Williams is making a name for himself this spring. This includes being one of the top 2028 players recently at the NY2LA Sports Invitational. This comes after averaging 16.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists for Waukesha North in his sophomore season. He has good physical tools as a 6’5” wing forward along with his strong build and athleticism. This is in addition to being able to make plays off the dribble including strong aggressive drives to the basket. Though he can also spot up and shoot the three, be effective from the mid-post and score it well around the paint. With all these tools, Williams is a player that college coaches will want to see.
