One more article to look at some of the great talent at both the 17U and 16U levels of this past weekend’s NY2LA Sport Invitational.
Tray Alford – 2027 – PG – Y&R
Alford was one of a few standout guards on this Y&R team. He is a very quick playmaking point guard who created well for himself breaking down defenders with his shiftiness. Not only can Alford use his elusiveness to get into the paint to score and distribute the ball but he also shoots it at a high percentage off the dribble. From both the mid-range and the outside, Alford created his own shot very well.
Wes Bauman – 2028 – G – River City United
With the help of Bauman, River City United went 4-0 in the tournament. This included him hitting four threes in their final win of the tournament. The guard is a confident shooter who moves well without the ball and was already ready to shoot it. As well to his shooting, Bauman also showed the ability to handle the ball and create for others.
Joe Keller – 2028 – SF – ALL IN Athletics
Keller is a 6’4” wing forward with a well-rounded and impactful game while consistently playing with plenty of energy. He scored it efficiently but also did so much more. This included showing perimeter skills being able to handle the ball, he also played big inside with his toughness on both ends. Keller scored the ball strong around the basket in traffic as well to being an aggressive rebounder.
Taylor Matthews – 2029 – PG – Team NAF
In a dominant win on Saturday, Matthews not only scored 18 points but did plenty more in the win. He is a highly active and competitive point guard who did a bit of everything. This included getting to the rim with his quickness and finishing through contact, came up with multiple steals playing active in the passing lanes and on the ball, passed it well creating for others, and took a charge.
Theo Toepel – 2027 – G/F – Pro Lane
Toepel was a highly impactful wing throughout the 3-1 tournament for Pro Lane. This included making plenty of plays in an overtime one point win in their final game. He is a highly versatile scorer who scored it in double figures in multiple games. The 6’4” wing scored plenty of tough baskets around the paint including effectively on put backs as an aggressive rebounder. He also scored it facing up in the mid-post and spotting up for threes. His impact also included on the defensive side matching up with multiple positions well.
