One more article from the 17U level of the NY2LA Sports Invitational with the ones to watch.
James Brady – 2027 – C – Wisconsin Playmakers East
Following a conference player of the year junior season, Brady greatly impressed here which included helping his team to a 4-0 record. He is a 6’10” post with a solid and powerful build to be a force in the paint. He scored it well inside with good footwork posting up as well as keeping the ball high, all to score on a high percentage of his paint touches. Brady was able to get to the line often as he proved to be so difficult to defend inside and hit them at a high percentage. He also played with good energy especially being active on the glass.
Garrett Crull – 2027 – G – Wisconsin Swing
Crull shined on Sunday scoring 21 points helping the Swing cruise to a win. He showed a unique blend of versatile scoring ability getting it done efficiently from all three levels as well to being able to run the point well while having great positional size at 6’5”. In the win, he hit three threes while also shooting it well getting to his spots in the mid-range and around the paint. Even while scoring at a high rate, Crull also showed good vision looking to distribute the ball too.
Chris Retic – 2027 – SF – Jay Academy
Retic has consistently played at a very high level during three different NY2LA tournaments this spring. At this past tournament he had a game with 20 points along with 6 blocks. He has a great combination of tools as a lengthy 6’7” wing forward along with his outside shooting hitting three threes in this game and his great athleticism. His shot blocking came when both being on the ball and being very active in help. Retic has continued to show more and more this spring and needs to be on scholarship coaches’ radars.
Chris Rupert – 2027 – F/C – Team Hali
Rupert showed a ton of tools that translate to the next level that should have him on the radar of plenty of division one coaches. This include being 6’10” along with a strong build and athleticism. He was a highly impactful player on both ends of the floor. He proved to be a true rim protector but can also defend ball screens and switch onto the perimeter moving well for his size. He also used his size to finish it very strong around the paint as well to being able to face up to the basket and put the ball on the floor.
Brady Welch – 2027 – PG – MidPro Academy
Welch excelled with both his point guard skills as well to his shooting. In a game on Saturday, he scored 18 points. He did this by hitting four threes as well to creating his own shot in the mid-range as he moves so well with the ball creating separation. His array of point guard abilities including great vision and passing ability on the attack plus strong handle and decision making.
