The future was on display at the Grassroots Showcase with plenty of top performances at the 15U level. Here are a few of those standouts from Louisville.

Caden Bezik – 2029 – G – Kessel Heat

Bezik showed a good blend of skills and energy to be an impactful player on both ends of the floor. He is a highly energetic and aggressive defender pressuring the ball in the half court. This was shown by forcing multiple turnovers in a single game including forcing an over and back getting all over the ball. Bezik also scored it effectively both as a straight-line driver along with being a consistent three-point shooter.

Lane Chamberlin – 2029 – G – Midwest Pumas

Chamberlin is an all-around skilled guard who knows how to play. This was highlighted by his ability to create off the dribble. He sees the floor well and was often getting into the paint. Chamberlin drived to distribute the ball kicking it out for multiple threes in a game as well to finishing it well for his size inside including for some and one plays. This is in addition to also being able to shoot the three. The freshman also pressures the ball well along with rebounding it effectively as a guard.

Liam Etter – 2029 – G/F – Wisconsin Dynasty

Already as a freshman, Etter has a good combination of physical tools along with a versatile game including his offensive skill set. The 6’3” wing using his size and physicality to drive to the basket along with finishing strong inside along with being a consistent spot up shooter from three.  Etter has showed a good defensive ability playing big in the paint  blocking and altering shots but also defending well on the perimeter. Etter is a name to follow in Wisconsin’s 2029 class.

Calvin Gilbert – 2029 – PF – 3D Empire

Gilbert had one of the most dominant games of the tournament scoring 31 points as well to helping 3D Empire go 4-0 in the tournament. As well to being 6’7”, he is an energetic power forward who already shows a good game. He can use his size to score it strong inside but also scored it driving to the basket being able to handle the ball as well as multiple transition dunks in that one game. His energetic play was also shown with his interior defense, running the floor hard, and on the glass.

Abdriel Montanez – 2029 – F – Jay Academy

Not only is Montanez already 6’5” but was also an impactful forward on both ends of the floor while playing with good energy and physicality. To finish off their undefeated pool play run, he took over on both ends of the floor. This included scoring 16 points in addition to blocking 5 shots in the win. Montanez shoots the ball very well from three hitting a trio of them in that one game at a high percentage but also finished it strong inside including on some and one finishes.

Juel Turner – 2029 – F – Courts Vision Elite

Turner was one of the more dominant forwards at the 15U level of the tournament. As well to being 6’5”, he already has a strong build too. He scored it very effectively in the low post being able to overpower opposing big men scoring posting up consistently. Turner also passed it well from the paint in addition to being effective scoring the ball from the high post. He also showed his athleticism on the defensive side blocking shots around the paint as well to also moving well defending out on the perimeter as well.

Troi Watkins – 2029 – PG – Ohio Saints

Watkins was a key piece for the Saints 3-1 weekend including his dominant performance in their final game. In the second half of a tight game, he showed his ability take over with his scoring ability leading them to a win. Watkins is a highly skilled scorer with the ability to create for himself. The point guard moves so well with the ball getting into the defense and finishing with his quickness, handle, and change of direction. He also shot it well off the dribble from both the mid-range with a few pullup jumpers in that one game as well as three. His shot making ability included hitting fade away jumpers and step back threes.
