One group of standouts was just not enough from the 16U level of the Grassroots Showcase, here is the next group up.
Wyatt Ball – 2028 – SG – D Rice Elite
With his play over multiple games, Ball proved to be one of the top shooters at the 16U level. In an overtime win Saturday, Ball showed his pure jumper hitting four threes while scoring 16 points. Especially in the first half, Ball was just not missing from the outside. He is a confident shooter who was always ready to shoot spotting up.
Chase Daugherty – 2028 – SF – Erie Ice
Daugherty was a big piece of a win of a close win on Sunday. Not only did the 6’4” small forward score 16 points as a versatile and efficient scorer but also did plenty more. He scored some strong buckets inside while posting up smaller defenders, hit jumpers from the mid-range and three, and had an and one cutting play. On the defensive side he also played big with his toughness for his guard heavy lineup and rebounded the ball extremely well.
Jason Jimenez – 2028 – F/C – West Michigan Premier
The 6’7” post was effective on both sides down in the paint. Jimenez scored it well posting up using his to size to finish through contact as well to hitting mid-range jumpers plus passing it well out of the post. This led him to scoring 8 first half points in his Sunday game. He was just as impactful with his defensive play as a paint protector blocking multiple shots but altering even more. He’s an intriguing 2028 big man with plenty of upside.
Luke Lettvin – 2028 – G – Kessel Heat
Following a breakout sophomore season with Notre Dame Prep, Lettvin kept up his high level of play here. This included a 17-point game to finish off a 4-0 tournament for Kessel Heat. Lettvin is an offensively skilled guard who knows how to play. He created well for himself offensively being able to get to his spots in the paint and mid-range playing strong on the attack and finish it effectively from there. This was in addition to hitting a key pair of threes in the second half in that final game to help them grab the tight win.
Tyrell Louis – 2028 – G/F – Team NAF
Louis is a highly versatile and athletic 6’4” wing who made a ton of plays throughout the tournament to go undefeated in pool play. He was doing a bit of everything early on in a dominant first half to have his team up 20 at the half. Louis was big on the defensive end being able to defend on the perimeter and in the paint well while also forcing several turnovers in the game as well to his tough rebounding. The wing also scored the ball strong both down in the paint as well as playing on the attack as well as in transition.
Kyle Nazos – 2028 – PG – Mercury Elite Ruggles
Nazos was the floor general behind this 4-0 Mercury Elite squad who had some dominant wins. As well to his high-level point guard play, he also scored it in double digits in multiple games. The sophomore shoots it well from the outside but also had some and one driving plays. He showed good point guard tools with his high IQ play, strong handle, passing it well, all in addition to consistently playing hard.
Nick Tempelis – 2028 – SG – Team Herro Elite
Tempelis had a big start to the tournament in the opening win for Herro and continued from there to help them go undefeated in pool play. The 6’3” two guard started 2-2 from the outside to give his team an early 9-4 lead. Much more than just a three-point shooter, Tempelis showed a well-rounded offensive game too. He is a good decision maker with the ball in his hands in addition to moving well without the ball. Plus, the guard scored it well on the attack, hit shots in the mid-range, and passes it well on the move.
