There was plenty of talent to like from the 16U level of the Grassroots Showcase. Here are some that had the biggest weekends in Louisville
Davae Andrews-Glover – 2028 – PG – Hustle Elite
While he showed a good ability to run the point, Andrews-Glover truly excelled with his scoring ability. This included scoring 23 points in a game getting it done in a variety of ways. Andrews-Glover is quick with the ball in his hands in addition changing directions effectively slicing through the defense all the way to the basket. As well consistently beating defenders off the dribble, the sophomore also shot the ball well from the outside. In addition to scoring the ball in bunches, the point guard also showed the ability to facilitate it passing it well on the move.
Denham Butler – 2028 – G/F – D Rice Elite
Butler turned his game up a level in a matchup of two of the top 16U teams up against 3D Empire. In this overtime win, Butler led his team scoring with an efficient 17 points. The active 6’3” wing scored it effectively in a variety of ways. This included strong aggressive drives all the way to the basket, in transition, getting to the line and knocking them all down, cutting to the basket, as well as hitting a pair of threes spotting up in this game.
Zayne Henderson – 2029 – PG – Erie Ice
Henderson played up a level and still shined with scoring 24 points in a win. He has an advanced skill set with both his shooting ability as well as playmaking off the dribble. In that one game, Henderson knocked down six threes as a pure knockdown shooter. As well to his shooting, he showed good point guard tools with good handle, playing smart with the ball, and shifty moves beating defenders off the dribble often.
Trey Kloock – 2028 – SG – Premier Chaos
It was an impressive weekend for Kloock whether he was playing at the 16U or 17U level. This included him scoring 20 points in a game as well to scoring it well throughout the tournament helping the Chaos to 3-0 in pool play. He the bulk of his scoring with his outside jumper. at 6’4” with his length, he can get his shot off with ease spotting up from the outside as well to being able to shoot it off the dribble. Kloock was one of the top shooters of the entire Grassroots Showcase.
Liam Laidig – 2028 – F – Kessel Heat
Laidig is a tough 6’5” forward with a good frame who plays with plenty of energy to have some big performances here. This included a 20-point performance in a tight win to finish off an undefeated 4-0 weekend. As part of this, he had some big buckets in the final two minutes. He uses his size and physicality to score some tough buckets inside as well as being able to score going to the basket. He also plays tough inside defensively in addition to being a real force on the glass.
Braun Meyer – 2028 – F – Wisconsin Swing
Meyer has looked to take a big jump in his game from last year with the Swing to this year with his play at the Grassroots Showcase. He now stands at 6’6” in addition to growing his game. This included his shooting ability as he hit four in a single game while scoring 22 points. He also scored it effectively around the basket utilizing his size and strength for some hard-fought baskets. Meyer was a big reason why the Swing went undefeated in pool play.
Kenny Turner – 2028 – PG – 3D Empire
With his play throughout the tournament, Turner proved to be one of the top scorers at the 16U level. This included having games of 23 points and 22 points in another. Not only did Turner score the ball in bunches at a high percentage but also made plenty of key plays down the stretch of an overtime game. The point guard plays with some toughness to his game getting all the way to the basket maneuvering through the defense and finishing in traffic but also shoots it well from three. He is a skilled guard with some real competitiveness to his game.
Jacoby Vance – 2029 – PF – Team NAF
At 6’6” with his strong build and physical play, Vance was a force inside even while playing up a level to help Team NAF go 3-0 in pool play. This was especially the case on the offensive end as Vance was very effective scoring the ball down in the paint. He showcased some strong back to the basket moves being able to bully defenders and worked hard to get good position inside. Vance can also play facing up to the basket and showed the ability to defend both in the paint and on the perimeter effectively.
