Plenty more standouts from the Grassroots Showcase with part two of the 17U standouts.
Alex Cheatham – 2027 – PG – 3D Empire
Cheatham was one of the top playmaking point guards of the tournament in which 3D Empire went 3-1. He’s an athletic point guard who excels getting into the paint and creating. He showed a very good passing ability on the move, collapsing defenses and getting the ball out to shooters. This was as well to being able to score it himself on the attack plus getting to the line often. Cheatham already holds multiple division one offers.
Ayden Glenn – 2027 – G – Tennessee Tigers
Glenn had multiple standout games including one with 21 points. As well to being able to score it from all three levels, the skilled guard also showed the ability to create for himself. Whether it was from three or in the mid-range, Glenn shot it well off the dribble moving well with the ball with to create separation. He is a quick guard with his burst to fly by defenders to get to the basket where he finished well through contact.
Brayden Golabowski – 2027 – SG – 24Up
Golabowski is a good size guard at 6’4” with some toughness and came through with some big performances. This included scoring 10 points in the second half alone of his first game of the tournament. He did the bulk of his scoring playing aggressively on the attack going strong to the basket and using his size to finish it very effectively at the basket. Golabowski also contributed with his energetic defensive play leading to multiple steals and deflections as well to a good passing ability highlighted by an on target full court pass.
Dorion Jackson – 2027 – G – D Rice Elite
Jackson was one of the top shooters of the tournament. This included hitting five threes in an overtime battle of a game. This included a clutch one in the overtime of the win. Along with his pure jumper, he moves well without the ball, has good range, and can quickly get into his shot off the catch. He also made some plays driving to distribute and used his quickness defensively to force some turnovers on the ball.
Landon Lethunya – 2027 – F – Full Package
It was another standout tournament for Lethunya who helped lead Full Package to a 3-1 tournament with a few dominant wins. As well to being an athletic 6’9” forward, Lethunya continued to show his growing all-around game in addition to his tremendous upside. He moves well without the ball cutting or curling to the basket and finishing multiple dunks in the tournament in addition to showing a continued improved shooting ability from three.
Alex Ortega – 2026 – PG – PAC Elite
After impressing earlier this month at the Swish N’ Dish Tournament, Ortega was one of the top guards at the Grassroots Showcase. This included games of 21 points and 16 points while also being able to run the point well in a 3-1 weekend for PAC Elite. He is a crafty point guard who changes speeds well playing smart with the ball in his hands. For his size, Ortega finished it well at the basket with some and one finishes as well to being able to consistently hit the three.
Robert Page – 2028 – PG – Premier Chaos
While playing up a level, Page showed great shot making ability while moving so well with the ball. The sophomore guard has a great ability to create his own shot from both the mid-range and three. His shot making including hitting step back shots and deep threes. The playmaking ability of Page extended to his distributing as he is a good decision maker reading the floor and passes it well.
Paul Ridgway – 2027 – SF – DistinXion
Not only was he one of the top players of the tournament but Ridgway also has great upside. He is an athletic 6’6” wing with a versatile offensive skill set while also playing with great energy consistently. His scoring versatility includes being able to shoot the three, score it in the post, get out in transition and finish, as well as making plays off the dribble. His energetic play was highlighted by scoring a transition basket but still getting back on the other side defensively for a deflection to save a basket. During the tournament he added an offer from Southeastern Illinois College.
Robert Wesley – 2027 – SG – Reach Legends
Johnson shined in his opening game of the tournament where he scored 19 points. Then on the next day of the tournament, he followed that up with a 17-point game. The 6’4” wing guard was effective scoring multiple strong baskets down around the basket but also with his shooting. Johnson has good moves with the ball creating separation to hit mid-range jumpers quickly pulling up as well to being able to hit the three. His toughness was also shown with his active and aggressive rebounding.
