Another group of players to watch from the 17U level of the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish Tournament.
KJ Cross – 2027 – G/F – Wisconsin Dynasty
Cross is a 6’5” wing with a strong build who was a highly impactful player throughout the tournament. He uses his strength to be an aggressive downhill driver who can battle through defenders as well to outrebounding posts inside and scoring on put backs. Cross also showed some good moves with the ball as well to being able to shoot the three.
Donovan Davis – 2027 – F – Team Herro
Davis had some big moments during the tournament helping Team Herro win the 17U platinum championship. This included scoring 11 points in just the first half on the championship game. He is an incredibly unique talent at 6’8” who showcased his well-rounded game throughout the tournament. Not only did he use his size and strength to score in the post or going strong to the basket but also with his consistent three-point shooting. The four-star forward is a player who can lead a team in scoring but also be the ultimate glue guy doing a little bit of everything including with his very good passing ability and controlling the glass.
Deven Marshall – 2027 – PG – Illinois Wolves
Following a breakout junior season with Rock Island which included a 53-point game in a 28-5 season, Marshall was one of the top guards at the 17U level at Swish N’ Dish with multiple standout games. This included a team high 16 points helping the Wolves reach the platinum championship game as well to a game winning basket earlier in the tournament. The guard has a well-rounded skill set as he plays smart with the ball running the point, shoots it well spotting up from three, moves well with the ball on the attack and finishes extremely well all around the paint versus size, and showed his bounce with a couple of dunks in the semifinals game.
Ahmed Nur – 2027 – G/F – Power 5
Nur was one of the most intriguing prospects of the entire tournament. He has great size on the wings at 6’9” in addition to his great length, fluid athleticism, and versatile skill set. The wing has a very good-looking jumper with deep range extending beyond three but also uses his size to score in paint and working in the mid-post as well to creating off the dribble. He also has great defensive versatility with his size along with his quickness. There are few players nationally in the 2027 class that have his blend of talents.
Ed Stasys – 2027 – PF – Illinois Wolves
Stasys was a consistent player for the Wolves helping them into the platinum title game which included 15 points in the semifinals win. As well to being 6’8”, the junior also has a strong frame. He is a physical interior scorer whether posting up or on rolls and finishes at a very efficiently around the basket. As well to his physicality, Stasys also showed his athleticism plus growing perimeter skills handling the ball well on the attack. He was recently offered by Northern Illinois.
Nathan Stephens – 2027 – G/F – Full Package
Stephens is a highly versatile and impactful wing. He stands at 6’3” as well to playing with good strength and physicality. This was displayed by getting to the basket by backing down defenders or powering right through them, grabbing tough rebounds inside, and his defensive versatility defending taller opponents. At his size, he was one of the better rebounders at the 17U level which included grabbing one in a ton of traffic in the final thirty seconds of a tight game Friday helping Full Package to the win.
Will Stremlow – 2027 – G – Wisconsin Swing
Stremlow has been a big stock booster to be one of the top guards at this tournament. This included 38 points in a platinum quarterfinals game and 24 points in another game. He showed three level scoring ability using his size to finish strong around the basket, created his own shot in the mid-range hitting contested jumpers consistently, and shot it well from three. As well to his scoring ability, Stremlow has good positional size as a 6’4” combo guard in addition to a well-rounded game, defensive versatility, and athleticism. Following the tournament, Stremlow picked up a pair of scholarship offers coming from Purdue Northwest and UW-Parkside.
Jayden Taylor – 2027 – PG – Chicago Demons
Even while not scoring a ton, Taylor was crucial in a tight win for the Demons in a platinum bracket game. This was with both his point guard play and defense. This included a drive and dump off assist on the game winning basket in the final seconds. He plays quick with the ball in his hands and was often getting into the paint making plays. The speedy junior made even more plays defensively with his active play. Taylor was consistently pressuring the ball forcing multiple turnovers including a pair of back court violations just in that one game.
Emery Woehrmann – 2027 – G – Team Ramey EYCL
The 6’3” guard was one of the top scorers of this tournament. This included scoring 27 points in a single game. This was with knocking down seven threes in this game as Woehrmann is a high-level shooter who can also create his own shot shooting it well off the dribble. Much more than just a shooter, the guard moves well beating defenders off the dribble getting into the paint and finishing well in addition getting to his spots in the mid-range. Woehrmann is a highly skilled and complete scorer.
