The talent of the future was on display at the NY2LA Swish N’ Dish tournament this past weekend in Wisconsin. Here are several players who all greatly impressed and are ones to track as they move to the high school level this fall.
Nasier Faniel – 2030 – G – Mac Irvin Fire
Faniel is a lengthy and athletic guard who also showed good offensive tools as well. He scored an efficient 14 points in a quarterfinal’s matchup getting it done in a variety of ways. Ozier is a skilled and efficient scorer with the ball in his hands. He can break down defenders with his shifty moves but also beat them with his good strength scoring it very well getting to the basket. Not only a skilled scorer getting all the way to the basket, Ozier also shoots it well off the dribble from the outside. With all his abilities, Ozier is also a tough on ball defender, is active on the glass, and makes high energy plays.
Dayton Whyte – 2030 – SF – Wisconsin Academy
Whyte had some big games at Swish N’ Dish, including scoring 23 points leading his team into the semifinals. He’s an energetic wing forward with some size and plays with toughness. Whyte is a versatile scorer he did the bulk of his scoring around the basket as well on drives and cuts but also showed the ability to spot up and shoot the three. He is an aggressive driver playing through contact and being able to capitalize on multiple and one plays.
Houston Zepeda – 2030 – PG – Wolves Academy
With his two-way ability, Zepeda helped Wolves Academy reach the quarterfinals. This including scoring 20 points in the quarterfinals as well to being a shutdown perimeter defender. He moves extremely well defensively sticking with the ball being so tough to beat off the dribble. Offensively, he sees the floor well as well to having good moves with the ball often getting deep into the paint. The point guard finished it well all around the paint as well to making some good passes on the move too.
Bennett Meier – 2030 – SF – Mac Irvin Fire
Meier is a very lengthy wing forward with good size who also showed a highly versatile game helping the Fire to a 4-1 weekend. This included scoring 16 points in a quarterfinal win. Meier used his physical tools to score it around the basket at a high percentage but can also put the ball on the floor, got to the line often, and can shoot the three. He was one of the more skilled forwards at the 14U level.
Brighton Webb – 2030 – F – Team Herro
There is so much to like from the game of Webb that makes him a highly intriguing long-term prospect. He’s an athletic forward with a lengthy frame who showed his explosiveness with some transition dunks. Webb can also score it in the post both back to the basket and facing up as well as showing some growing range to his jumper.
Sheldon Yarbrough – 2030 – F – Power 5
As well to already having great size and strength, Yarbrough is an incredibly explosive power forward. He threw down multiple powerful dunks throughout the tournament. Yarbrough scored it strong at a high percentage at the basket. He was scoring in double figures throughout the tournament including to his tough interior defensive and controlling the glass to help Power 5 win the 14U platinum championship. He has tremendous physical tools to go along with an emerging game to make him a player to track.
