With championships on the line Sunday, there were many standouts and here are a few of the top ones.
Justin Cato – 2030 – G – Power 5
Cato was a huge piece of the championship run for the 14U Power 5 team. On Sunday it started with him scoring a game high 24 points in the quarterfinals win. The in the championship game, Cato once again led his team scoring 19 points in Power 5’s dominant win, this included 12 in the first half to build a significant lead. The guard is truly a skilled score who excels both with his outside shooting with good range as well as playing on the attack.
Maverick Davis – 2028 – G – Team Ramey
Davis had one of the top games of the day on Sunday. This was leading Team Ramey to a one-point quarterfinals victory over a very good Power 5 team. Not only did he score 15 points in the win but also made plenty of key plays defensively. The 6’3” guard can really shoot the ball hitting a pair of first half threes to build an early lead as well as having a few steals in the game being very active in the passing lanes and on the ball with his athleticism.
Keiwon Gulley – 2029 – PG – Mac Irvin Fire
On the big stage of the 15U championship game, Gulley turned his play up a level. This was with 22 points leading all in the title game. Throughout the championship game, Gulley could not be stopped from beating defenders off the dribble and getting into the paint. Even up against plenty of size, the point guard finished it very efficiently all around the paint as well as in the mid-range in addition to getting to the line often in this game.
Kager Knueppel – 2027 – G/F – Team Herro
With his team down two at the half of the 17U title game, Knueppel turned in a star performance in the second half helping his team to the title. In the second half alone, the junior scored 14 points. This included a pair of threes and a powerful dunk in addition to going 6-6 from the line all in the second half. Not only is Knueppel one of the top shooters in the region but also has great positional size at 6’10”.
Max McMullen – 2029 – PG – Team Herro
McMullen shined leading Herro to the 15U championship win. In this game, he took over right from the start. In the first half alone, McMullen scored 13 points building a 10-point first half lead for his team. He is an incredibly shifty point guard who was consistently beating defenders and finishing all around the paint very efficiently. He finished the title game win with 19 points.
