Following our series of 2027 players to see this spring, we move on down to the 2028 class. Here are five players in that 2028 class that college coaches will want to get a head start on.
Caleb Coolman – 2028 – G – Penn High School
Coolman has already proven to be one of the top sophomores in Indiana and following his season with Penn is looking like one of the top sophomores in all of the Midwest. In his sophomore season, Coolman was named to the Underclass Supreme 15, just one of three sophomores to make this list. As well to his great positional size at 6’5”, Coolman is also a highly skilled and versatile guard including a good ability to run the point and shot making. He already has a few mid-major offers as well to plenty of high major interest.
Terrin Jackson – 2028 – PG – Verona
Jackson had a breakout sophomore season while averaging nearly 20 points per game for Verona while leading them to a sectional final. This including scoring 32 points in a sectional semifinal win. The sophomore is an incredibly gifted playmaker with the ball who excels playing on the attack as a very quick and shifty lead guard.
Chase Kasten – 2028 – SG – Normal Community
Kasten has been a huge stock booster over the past year to make himself one of the top sophomores in Illinois. This included being named third team 4A all-state by the IBCA. As a sophomore, Kasten has an advanced game with his skill set, athleticism, and physical tools. He stands at 6’5” with a good build in addition to his well-rounded game highlighted by his three-level scoring ability.
Elijah Poniewaz – 2028 – PG – Chaminade Prep
Whether it was with Chaminade or Missouri Phenom, there were few 2028 players in the region who consistently impressed as much as Poniewaz over the past year. This started during the grassroots season leading the Phenom to the NY2LA Association title while averaging 22.5 points and then in his sophomore season earning all-district honors. Not only a fierce competitor, Poniewaz can both be an elite scorer as well to being a floor general running the point. He has started to generate a good amount of division one interest and should be a very popular target this spring.
Tyler Schwalbach – 2028 – G – Kaukauna
Schwalbach was the only sophomore to be named to the WBCA division one all-state team, doing so as an honorable mention. He was a big reason why Kaukauna was able to get to a sectional final as he averaged 15.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.7 steals this season. The 6’3” guard has a well-rounded game which features his playmaking ability to both score it himself from all three levels as well as creating for others in addition to his perimeter defensive ability.
