Milwaukee Juneau and Regis matched up at the Kohl Center in Madison for the second of the division 4 state semifinals. Juneau got off to quick start backed by their shut down half-court defense which included a 6-0 start and then leading by 14-3. While Regis made a couple of good runs in the game behind their hot shooting, including getting within 2 both in the first and second halves, Juneau always had the answer. Juneau won the game 72-54 and will advance to take on Cambridge on Saturday in the state championship game.
DJ Cooper – 2028 – PG – Regis
The breakout season of Cooper continued here in the semifinals as he shined while scoring 18 points as well to having 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Cooper excelled both with his outside shooting and his point guard play. In the game, Cooper hit four of his eight three-point attempts. This included a couple of early ones to lead a run. He also showed his great range hitting one from NBA range as well as being able to shoot off the dribble. As well, Cooper is a skilled passer on the move showing good vision seeing the whole floor and getting the ball to shooters. The sophomore also plays with some toughness and compositeness getting inside to fight for rebounds including coming away with a put back basket in the paint and driving into traffic and finishing right over defenders.
Dooney Johnson – 2027 – G – Milwaukee Juneau
The Gonzaga commit is a lengthy and athletic 6’5” guard with such a well-rounded skill set who did it all in this semifinals win. In the first half, Johnson showed his versatility making plays both with his defense and distributing. This included early on pushing the ball in transition for a couple of early assists. He was also making a ton of plays defensively including a block from behind, multiple deflections, and a passing lane steal, all in the first few minutes of play. In the second half, the junior came out aggressively looking to score the basketball. In the first eight minutes of action of the second half, he scored 13 points to build a 12-point lead for his team and put the game away. In the second half, Johnson scored 21 points to finish it with 27 points, leading all in the game. Johnson did hit a couple of threes in the game but showed his three-level scoring ability as well to going 9-9 from the line. He also led everyone with 11 rebounds plus added in 4 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocks.
Blake Risler – 2026 – SG – Regis
Risler has proven to be one of the top scorers in the state all season, including a recent 56-point game, and that continued in this game as he led Regis with 24 points even under a ton of defensive attention. Risler can truly score the basketball from all over the floor, and this included having such a pure jumper. The 6’4” two guard hit a trio of threes in this game showing a good ability moving without the ball. He also finished it very well around the basket amongst multiple defenders and plenty of size which included an and one finish. Risler is committed to St. John’s University (MN).
Takis Tyler – 2026 – PG – Milwaukee Juneau
Right from the start of the game, Tyler showed his great playmaking ability including a driving basket on the first play of the game. He is an incredibly quick point guard who creates exceptionally well off the dribble in addition to pressuring the ball. While he scored 22 points in the game, he was just as impactful with his incredibly active defensive play with 4 steals and forcing a few other turnovers too. Tyler hit a pair of threes in the game and with his quickness and moves right through traffic, also scored it getting all the way to the basket and with a pullup mid-range jumper. His two-way ability included a steal and turning that into a dunk of his own the other way in the last minute plus to put the game away.
