It was a pair of 25-1 teams matching up here in the sectional semifinals that easily could have been a matchup in Madison between Seymour and Freedom. It was one of the most packed and electric atmospheres you will see for a high school basketball game.
With its three-point shooting, including three from senior Kyler Marks, Seymour jumped out to an early 15-5 lead hitting five threes to open up the game. Freedom would not go away and was even able to take a 29-28 lead into the half. Freedom was able to extend their lead all the way up to 7 in the second half behind star junior Donovan Davis and a few others. However, Seymour was able to quickly answer that with an 8-0 run of their own to take the lead and use that to win this one 56-49.
Donovan Davis – 2027 – F – Freedom
In this game, Davis continued to showcase his incredibly well-rounded game with his versatile scoring ability, passing, ability to handle the ball, defensive versatility, and outside shooting. This is all while being a mobile 6’8” forward. In the game, he led Freedom with 17 points even while seeing plenty of double teams and even some triple teams at times. He had a double-double in the game while also adding in 15 rebounds in addition to 5 assists and a pair of blocks and steals. When Freedom got into an early whole, Davis quickly turned up his scoring with a mid-range jumper, three, pair of free throws, and a physical and one drive in a span of a few minutes. Davis also had some key plays late trying to get Freedom back in it including hitting a three in the final minute of the game. There are few players nationally that combine all the tools of Davis that made him such a unique recruit.
Rylan Jochimsen – 2028 – SG – Freedom
Right from the start, the sophomore stepped up his game on this big stage. He scored the first points of the game drilling a three. He shot it extremely well in the game which included three threes in the first half alone and a total of four in the game with his smooth jumper spotting up from deep. He finished with 14 points also adding in a driving bucket but also made plenty of plays defensively. He showed good instincts and energy on the defensive side with three steals just in the second half being able to quickly jump the passing lanes.
Jordan Krause – 2028 – PG – Seymour
Krause played a prominent role in the Seymour win with both his shooting and point guard play. Krause has continued to prove his outside shooting ability. In this game, this was with three made threes. It included a step back three in the first half as well to a pair in the second half helping Seymour in a comeback to retake the lead for good. While just a sophomore he has good point guard tools as well playing strong with the ball handling plenty of ball pressure and being able to create for others. He also made a few key defensive plays including a pair of blocks, one being in the final seconds of the game to end it.
Kyler Marks – 2026 – SF – Seymour
After recently winning player of the year in the Bay Conference, Marks turned in another big performance as he was able to lead all in the game with 22 points. This included three early threes on three attempts in the game’s opening minutes to get Seymour out to a first half double digit lead. His high percentage shooting continued throughout the game as he finished it with five made three pointers. This was in addition to some key baskets down the stretch. This included a driving basket in the final two minutes and a basket inside under a minute, both which increased the lead up to 5. As well to being a well-rounded scorer and player, Marks is a 6’5” small forward with a strong build and plays with good energy and toughness.
