Today, Jared Harris announced his commitment to Memphis and head coach Penny Hardaway. The commitment comes after the 6’3” senior guard of Silsbee High School (TX) took his official visit to the Memphis campus this past weekend.
Memphis had initially offered Harris during the summer in July. He announced his commitment with the caption, “Once a tiger always a tiger.” He played this summer with the Houston Superstars. Memphis is landing one of the most athletic and skilled scorers in the nations 2024 class.
Early last month, Harris announced his top ten list of colleges. In addition to Memphis on the list, the top ten also included Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, DePaul, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M. He had a long list of other offers that also included Auburn, Arizona State, George Mason, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Texas, Texas Tech, Washington State, and others.
Not only is Harris one of the top prospects in Texas’ 2024 class, but he is also a consensus top one hundred recruit in the nation. He marks the first commitment for the Tigers 2024 recruitment class to date. This comes after Memphis had one of the top recruiting classes in the nation last year for the 2023 class which included JJ Taylor, Carl Cherenfant, Mikey Williams, and others in addition to a very strong transfer class.
