On a visit to Madison on Saturday, Xzavion Mitchell received a scholarship offer from Wisconsin. The offer from Greg Gard and staff was the first high major offer for the 6’7” wing forward of Oshkosh North High School (WI) and Team Herro.

While Mitchell had a strong freshman season, he really took his game to another level this past year rounding out his entire skill set. During his sophomore season at Oshkosh North, he averaged 22.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. Then on the EYBL with Team Herro, he averaged 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50% from the field. Amongst the EYBL 16U he ranked in the top ten in scoring and top fifteen in rebounding.

“Visit was good,” Mitchell said about the trip to Madison. “We are going to setup another visit this fall and really see more of campus. Fan base, atmosphere was crazy. Something I’ve never seen but I loved going down and seeing what it was like going to a (football) game.”

Being his in-state school, the offer from the Badgers meant a bit more to the junior. “Can’t put it into words. I grew up watching the Badgers and me and my family watched them countless times during the tournament. When I heard those words from Coach Gard, it was a feeling I couldn’t describe. It means a lot being from Oshkosh knowing that I have the choice to go play for the Badgers.”

As well to the offer from Wisconsin, Mitchell was also offered by Cal Poly back in April. Some of the other schools showing the most interest in him currently include Iowa State, Northern Iowa, and Toledo. This upcoming weekend he has a visit planned to Northern Iowa.

Coach Gard and staff have made in-state recruits a priority for their 2025 class. Wisconsin already holds a commitment from guard Zach Kinziger, a teammate of Mitchell’s on Team Herro. They also have offers out to other in-state players Will Garlock, Kai Rogers, Davion Hannah, and LaTrevion Fenderson.
