One of the top remaining seniors in Illinois has made their college commitments. On Monday, David Douglas, a 6’5” guard of Yorkville Christian High School and Breakaway Basketball, announced his commitment to Wisconsin-Green Bay. Douglas was one of the top scorers in the entire Midwest region this season scoring over one thousand points on route to earning himself 1A first team all-state honors from the IBCA.
The recruitment of Douglas to Green Bay quickly came along over the past few weeks. Head Coach Sundance Wicks and staff had just offered the senior less than two weeks ago and then he made the visit north quickly following that. “My visit was really nice,” Douglas said. “I was able to see the campus, the dorms, and I walked through the Kress Center. Also, I was able to get over to the Resch Center.”
As well as the offer from Green Bay, Columbia was the other division one program to offer him. Plus, from the division two level he received offers from Cedarville, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, and University of Mary. “Something I love is how Green Bay give that home feeling and close community supportive type of vibe,” Douglas said on why he picked them over his other suitors. “All the staff I’ve encountered seemed really nice. The UWGB academics and athletics are a plus and I find it pretty easy to adapt to any environment. But it makes it easier for me to adapt to a new environment and focus when you feel the support.”
“I feel my game will fit in just right,” Douglas said based on playing different roles with Yorkville Christian and Breakaway. “My leadership along with scoring, facilitating, and defense will definitely contribute to Green Bay. I ran point, shooting guard, and had a heavy load to carry this past year and still was able to accomplish a lot. So, I’m excited to play at the next level and I’m ready to help turn this program around back to where it should be.” Douglas joins Marcus Hall and Mac Wrecke in their 2023 recruitment class.
