One of the top seniors left in Illinois announced their commitment on Friday. Zack Hawkinson of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and MidPro Academy made his commitment to North Georgia. The senior is one of the more impactful players in Illinois and has seen plenty of success during his high school career. As a junior he was a big piece of Sacred Heart-Griffin’s state championship and then followed that up with an NY2LA Association championship with MidPro Academy last summer.
The 6’6” wing chose North Georgia over his other scholarship offers from Illinois-Springfield, Maryville, Missouri St. Louis, Northern Michigan, Northwood, Purdue Northwest, and Winona State. On his decision, Hawkinson said “I like the coaching staff and players. I felt like they showed me love from the beginning all the way until now. The program was on the rise so that was another reason I feel like I could help them win a national title but also have fun along the way.”
Hawkinson took his visit to North Georgia back in September. “I enjoyed it” he said about the visit. “It felt like I fit right in with everybody, and they accepted me right away. The people on campus talked to me just giving me advice so I saw myself going there.”
For a few reasons, the wing sees his game fitting in very well at his future school. “They aren’t the biggest team which I think resembles me so I know I will be moving out to the perimeter more with their system, I’ll be able to post smaller guys and take bigger guys off the dribble. I think I fit in perfect with this team so I’m excited to get down there.”
