With seniors from Illinois making early commitments this year, David Douglas Jr. is one of the top senior guards left on the board in the states 2023 class. The 6’5” guard of Yorkville Christian and Breakaway Basketball has earned himself a trio of division two offers so far.
Cedarville, Hillsdale College, and Minnesota Duluth are his current offers. When speaking about the two, Douglas said, “They all mentioned they had a good engineering program and a few even had a good computer engineering program as well,” which is his desired major of choice.” He added in, “They also all seem to have a very competitive basketball program that is looking to build on the success from last season.” As well to the offers, he has several division one and two programs recruiting him including Army West Point, Colgate, Cornell, McKendree, MSU Denver, and University of Charleston.
Last season, Douglas was a key piece of Yorkville Christian that won the Illinois 1A State Championship. With his versatility and play on both sides of the basketball, the senior has plenty of tools for the next level. He is a very tough perimeter defender that can match up with both guards and wings with his length and agility. On the other end, he is one of the better outside shooters in the area who can also handle the ball. As well to his state championship last season, he also won the Illinois 1A three-point shootout. Already this season, he was named to the all-tournament team at the prestigous Kevin Brown Memorial Tournament of Champions while avergaing 21 points per game.
When asked what he can bring to a college program, Douglas looked past just the hardwood. “I am a student athlete that takes care of business in the classroom and also a competitor on the court. Who gives one hundred ten percent and will do whatever it takes to help my team win.”
Even with the offers in hand, Douglas is more focused on other things than a commitment. At the moment, he is focused on the high school season but following Christmas, “will be looking into a timeline for a commitment.”
