The much-anticipated commitment from DJ Wagner is in. The consensus top three nationally ranked 2023 prospect made his commitment and signed with Kentucky on Monday. Multiple outlets have Wagner as the top 2023 recruit in the entire nation.
While the 6’3” guard of Camden High School and the New Jersey Scholars Elite had several offers, it came down to two schools. Wagner chose the Wildcats over Louisville. As well, Memphis, Syracuse, Temple, and Villanova had also offered the star guard. While Louisville hired Wagner’s grandfather, Milt Wagner, to their new staff in the spring it was not enough to win him over. He also has a strong connection to John Calipari as his dad, Dajuan, played for him at Memphis.
This season Wagner was one of the top ten leading scorers on the 17U Nike EYBL apart of a very strong NJ Scholars team averaging 18.8 points per game in addition to 4.9 assists. The senior is an elite and explosive scorer. He excels playing on the attack but also has a good ability to create his own shot to be a legitimate three level scorer. As well to high skill level and solid frame, he has desired intangibles with his aggressive and winning play.
Wagner joins a star-studded 2023 recruitment class for Calipari and the Wildcats which is headlined by multiple five-star recruits. He joins his high school and NJ Scholars teammate Aaron Bradshaw, as well as guard Robert Dillingham, guard Reed Sheppard, and wing Justin Edwards. The addition of Wagner looks to give Kentucky the top 2023 recruiting class in the nation.
