It was a monumental day for Memphis on Saturday. Penny Hardaway and staff landed a pair of priority 2023 recruits in Mikey Williams and JJ Taylor. With the pair of commitments, Memphis now has one of the top 2023 recruitment classes in the nation.

The duo each announced their commitments via Instagram Saturday evening. The commitments come as the pair visited Memphis over the weekend. Recently, Taylor transferred out of Donda Academy and joined Williams at San Ysidro High School in San Diego.

Taylor, a 6’8” small forward originally from Chicago, had received offers from Duke, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, among several others. While his recruitment had slowed down over the past year, he is still a top fifty nationally ranked player. With the athleticism, scoring ability, and length he has the upside to be one of the top players in the entire class nationally.

Williams is a five-star recruit that is one of the top guards in the entire 2023 class. He is an elite playmaker with his shot making in addition to ability to create for others. The 6’2” guard had also received offers from Arizona, Kansas, Oregon, UCLA, USC, among a long list of others.

Williams and Taylor mark the third and fourth commitment in Hardaway’s 2023 class. They join wing Carl Cherenfant and guard Ryan Forrest so far.
