The city of Houston has no shortage in high caliber recruits for the class of 2022 and F Jaret Valencia fits the bill of players that make an immediate impact the second he steps on the floor.  The 6’8 super athletic prospect is the center piece of talented Legacy squad that is one of the best you will find in the state.  When it is all said and done, he could very well be one of the most prized recruits in not just the state, but also in the entire southern region.  He is not one for many words but would rather let his game do the talking.

In the open floor is where Valencia really sets himself apart from other players his size.  He is a gym rat and always finds little things to add to his game.  He is dangerous around the rim and has a natural feel for scoring the ball.  He anticipates well and gets a lot of baskets penetrating to the basket as well as easy offensive put backs.  He is a great decision maker and tends to let the game come to him.  Still improving his three-point shot, he has developed the ability to step back beyond 15 feet and consistently knock down the open shot.  He handles the ball well and has a high IQ.  He finds teammates in the half court when he is double teamed and is exceptionally good in the pick and roll situation.  He has also improved his free throw shooting due to finding himself at the strip quite often due to penetration and attacking the basket.
Defensively he has great length, and this keeps players in front of him and out of the paint.  He anticipates well and gets steals and deflections in the passing lanes.  He has tremendous athleticism that he uses to protect the rim by blocking and altering shots.  He loves the challenge of shutting down the opposing teams’ best player and this passion and dedication on amplify his all-around skills on the court.  He has gained a lot of attention in the last months as college programs have caught the buzz of his potential talent and have made him someone who they are targeting for their recruitment.
He was able to gain scholarship offers from the likes of Creighton, Houston, Marquette, Oral Roberts, Mississippi St, Pacific, Rutgers, and San Diego St.  He also holds offers from South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee St, and Washington St. We look for him to have a big senior season to add to his resume before he picks what school he will be taking his talents to next fall.
