2023 Gavyn Hurley is a prospect trending up within the state of Wisconsin. Hurley had a breakout grassroots season playing a variety of roles for Wisconsin Swing. A versatile guard with good size at close to 6’5, Hurley can do a little bit of everything on the court. He spent some time as the primary distributer and ball handler for WI Swing, showing a nice feel for the game and ability to run a team, and is also comfortable operating on the wing as a slasher and shooter. Hurley can guard multiple positions and is able to switch on to different matchups as needed, making him a valuable asset to any team and a prospect college coaches should be watching closely.

NY2LA Sports caught up with Matt Bredeson, Wisconsin Swing Highschool Director, to discuss coaching Hurley and some more insights into his game.

“The thing about Gavyn is he effects the game in so many different ways. He can score, he can defend the opponent’s best player, he can rebound, he has great court vision. Gavyn grew up as a Point Guard, now he’s 6’5 with perimeter skills, which helps make him a matchup nightmare.”

Along with his skillset and versatility, two more traits that separate Hurley from other players, according to Bredeson, are his combination of competitiveness and unselfishness.

“I’ve been coaching high level AAU for 12 years, Gavyn is one of the most coachable, most competitive, highest character kids I’ve had the privilege to coach… Gavyn is so unselfish, he puts team success over his own, every single time.”

Look for Hurley to have a big Junior season at Middleton HS (WI) and he should be a major contributor for the Wisconsin Swing on the NY2LA Association platforms in Spring 2022.
