As 2023 prospects go a number of talented names continue to emerge across the country. The state of Texas is always a hotbed for prospects and the 2023 class is no exception with Gehrig Normand of Birdville (TX) being the latest one to break out.
A 6-6 175 pound shooting guard from North Richland Hills, Texas, Normand delivered a breakout performance this past spring and summer with the always elite 3D Empire program and he caught the attention of schools and college coaches accordingly. An excellent perimeter shooting prospect, Normand has nice size and feel and his advanced instincts combined with his ability to move without the ball making for an extremely difficult cover given his shooting prowess on the hardwood. He’s shown an ability to make shots from multiple levels both off the catch and the bounce and he has solid athleticism and bounce to complete the package.
All of that was on display game in and game out this past spring and summer and his performances helped him garner First Team All-Underclassmen honors for the 2021 NY2LA Basketball Association. Normand has seen his recruiting start to take off over the past couple of months and it’s just the tip of the iceberg as he’s primed for a huge junior campaign and he could very well become one of the bigger stories in the blue chip basketball state of Texas over the next 10-12 months.
His most recent offer came from Kansas State the Wildcats join the likes of Rice, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, New Mexico, and Texas Rio Grande Valley as Division 1 programs with offers on the table. With skill being a priority more and more, look for Normand’s recruiting trail to grow substantially as he’s an excellent perimeter shooting prospects whose best basketball lies ahead.
He plays with the 3D Empire program during the grassroots travel season.
