Much attention is being paid to the state of Texas because of the number of big-time national prospects the state has. The Houston area is home to the class of 2023 G/F Chris Johnson of Elkins High School in Missouri City just to the south of Houston. Johnson while still young, has all the makings of an elite national prospect and he is just scratching the surface in terms where his ceiling is. He is one of the most hard-working prospects that you will find in terms of putting in extras hours in the gym. It will not be long before he is a household name among top level prospects in the area and beyond.

Standing 6’5, Johnson already has the height and the strength to cause serious matchup problems at the high school level. A three-level scorer, with great instincts allows him to play multiple positions on the offensive end. He has above average ball handling skills and will attack the rim every chance that he gets. He is a gifted athlete who has put in a lot of work to improve his outside shot over the last summer. He can step out from well beyond the arc and consistently make the three, or he can pull up from the mid-range when the defense is aggressive on the perimeter. While his decision making has continued to improve, his passing has improved considerably. This has allowed for him to not only play off the ball, but also in a PG role as he can find open teammates for easy baskets in the half court as well as transition.

Defensively he is the heart and soul of the team on every possession. He has great instincts as size which allows him to get in the passing lanes and get steals that lead to transition plays. He has great positioning on rebounding and is very sound as a on ball defender. He can switch off on smaller guards because of his speed as well as bigger defenders because of size and strength. He is a legit top 50 national prospect and some of the best universities in the nation are taking notice.

His outstanding growth over the last year has gained him offers from Creighton, LSU, New Mexico St, TCU, and Prairie View A&M University. Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, and Georgia are some of the latest schools to extend offers and get in the fold. This list will look a lot different in the next 12 months as some of the top schools outside the region are getting a front seat at his development and will begin to make a hard play at landing the prized recruit.
