When it comes to the city of Houston there has never been a shortage of high-level guards that the city produces. One name that has been cemented in stone as one of the best to ever hit the hardwood is that of former Texas and NBA standout, TJ Ford. Following in his father’s footsteps is class of 2023 G TJ Ford Jr who is making some noise of his own on the court and is ready to take that next step in becoming an elite level prospect. The 5’10 PG out of Ridge Point High School just south of Houston, is just starting to scratch the surface in terms of potential and doesn’t seem to be satisfied with nothing short of greatness.
Like his father, he is exceptionally skilled and can control the pace of the game. He has above average court vision and will find teammates on the floor at any time. He is an elite ball handler who keeps the ball on a string and blows by defenders at ease with either hand. He has the upper body strength to get into the paint and finish at the rim with contact with his right or his left hand. He has the unique ability to always know when to make the right play and unlike many others is a true point guard. He is not turnover prone and is always the vocal leader on out on the court. He has worked steadily at being a more consistent three-point shoot as well as getting better mechanics on his shot. The extra off the court work has shown to be working as his confidence has grown and is extremely comfortable being a legit three level scorer on the offensive end.

His defensive abilities are just as elite as his abilities on the offensive end. He tenacity and dedication on the defensive allows him to shutdown opposing guards as well as switch off on bigger opponents. He has extremely high IQ and constantly is playing passing lanes and getting steals leading to transition buckets. He uses his body and boxes out very well for a player his size. He takes pride on the defensive end of the floor, and it translates to positive gain for his team on the offensive end. His play this past summer put him on notice for many of the schools in the region as they take a closer look to get him on campus.

During last year’s travel season, he competed against some of the best talent nationally playing for the talented Team Ford AAU Club. He has started to get quite the buzz from many of the top schools in the region and his offer list will only grow as he continues to excel on the court as well as the classroom.
