In addition to the first and second teams, there were plenty of talented candidates for this honorable mention list. With tournaments across the country this year on the association, it included plenty of loaded teams. Here are the dozen players that earned themselves honorable mention honors.
Jordan Briggs – 2023 – G – UTS Elite
A do it all point guard that plays well on both sides of the floor. While he showed the ability to do plenty on the floor, Briggs is exceptionally good with the ball in his hands attacking. With his quickness and handle, the point guard has a great ability to get to the basket plus also create for teammates with his good vision. Over the past several months, the guard from Michigan has earned himself offers from Bethune-Cookman and Ferris State.
Fazion Farr – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Dynasty
A tough slashing guard that has only continued to improve his all-around game to be one of the more impactful players at the 16U level on the association. A fearless driver that gets to the basket incredibly well but also developed a consistent jump shot. Farr is a big contributor on the floor also with his distributing skills and tough perimeter defensive play.
Jake Hamilton – 2023 – G – Illinois Predators
One of the more talented guards on the association that had plenty of great tournaments. Hamilton is such a skilled wing guard that showed a good scoring ability from all three levels. He plays well with the ball in his hands but also has a good jumper from the outside. He has continued to gain more and more college interest over the last few months and expect that to only grow.
Zack Hawkinson – 2023 – F – Illinois Predators
Another member of the IL Predators team on this list. Hawkinson is a tough wing forward that continuously showed the ability to do so much on the floor. A skilled and versatile defender with all his tools who can guard multiple positions at a high level. Hawkinson is also a key contributor on the other end with his ability to play off the dribble, score in the post, plus has a smith jumper.
Sammon Johnson – 2023 – G – 3D Empire
Johnson was a key piece for a very good 3D Empire team with all that he did on the floor. The wing guard is a unique and versatile player with his great strength plus his motor. He proved to be an incredibly tough matchup with his ability to overpower defenders but also a good skill set to score it from all over. Every tournament, Johnson only seemed to get better and better.
Austin Landess – 2023 – G – Wisconsin RAP
Throughout the season, Landess had plenty of big performances. The high IQ guard is a skilled scorer as well to being a good distributor. The playmaker is a good decision maker with the ball in his hands and has a good ability to score it from all over. As part of a talented backcourt for his RAP team, Landess always found a way to contribute in a big way.
Arhman Lewis – 2023 – G – Movement Hoops
With all of his abilities, Lewis proved to be one of the more difficult point guards to defend. He has great quickness, handle, and shiftiness to get wherever he wants on the floor. All season long, Lewis was nearly unstoppable getting into the paint and making plays for himself and teammates but also hit shots from the outside well.
Braden McGlothlin – 2023 – G – JH1 Elite
One of the most improved players of the 16U level of the association who just continued to improve throughout the spring and summer. McGlothlin is a skilled guard with a good feel for the game with a very good scoring ability. The guard is a knockdown shooter from the perimeter but also plays well with the ball in his hands.
Tucker Mills – 2023 – G – Rocky Mountain Select
Tournament after tournament, Mills was one of top scorers at the 16U level of the association. He is a wing guard with good positional size standing at 6’5” in addition to a high-level shooting ability from the outside. Not only does he shoot it well off the catch but also can create his own shot. Mills also has good length and some bounce to his game. He is a high ceiling guard that college coaches will want to check out.
Matthew Schmainda – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Swing
At points over the season, Schmainda was one of the most dominant guards that just took over games. A skilled combo guard that continuously contributed in a variety of ways for his team. Schmainda plays well off the dribble, shoots it well spotting up from three, creates well for teammates, and a smart decision maker with the ball. He is poised for a big junior season.
Danny Stephens – 2023 – G/F – Mid Pro Academy
Stephens was a key piece of the dominant 16U Mid Pro team that won the Grassroots Summer Championship title. While he had plenty of great showings over the season, he saved the best for the last day of the season, scoring 20 points in the semifinals and a key 10 points in the title game. The lengthy wing is a smart and high energy player that has a good versatile scoring ability.
Jamisen Young – 2023 – G – World Hoops Elite
A dynamic playmaking point guard that is very talented with the ball in his hands. Young constantly proved to be one of the best distributors each and every tournament. The junior always did a tremendous job of getting into the paint and creating for his teammates. He has excellent court vision and decision-making ability.
