Class of 2022 G/F Anquan Boldin Jr. had quite the spring and summer travel season. During the sessions of the Grassrootshoops circuit he was one of the few prospects who showed that he can rise to the occasion if the stage is right, and the competition level increases. In terms of potential and upside when it is all said and done, he could be not only one of the best players in Florida, but also one of the of the best prospects in the southeast region.
The 6’5 do it all wing plays the game with a flare that is not seen a lot at the high school level. He can score the basketball from a variety of ways with little to no effort. He has a lightning quick first step as well as a crossover dribble that at times can bring defenders to their knees. He has a strong upper body frame and is an exceedingly difficult matchup for defenders at the high school level. He can get his shoot off against most defenders and has increased his range to beyond the three-point line. In the open court he sees the floor very well with the ball in his hand and sets him teammates up for easy baskets. He has a high basketball IQ and is particularly good in the pick and roll. He does not force the issue and plays the game at a steady pace but can turn on the intensity at a snap of finger and create plays for his team at any point.
Defensively he is very versatile and can guards just about any position on the floor at the high school level. On the perimeter, he can keep guards in front of him because of his speed and size. He moves his feet very well and plays with a high level of passion on the defensive end of the floor. He rebounds the ball well and loves to start the transition break and make plays in the open court. He is a great athlete and does protect the rim when challenged down low. He anticipates well in the passing lanes and gets a lot of steals and deflections and has no problem switching on an opposing team’s best player and shutting him down. This all-around play on the court has caught the eyes of college programs in the region and some have taken the step to make him a top priority for the class of 2022.
His play this summer earned him scholarship offers from Albany St, Lynn University, and Barry University. He recently announced that he is transferring to IMG Academy where he will play his senior season. We fully expect for his recruiting to pick up over the next season before he makes his decision on college.
