Martavious Russell is one of the special talents that does not come around often. The Tuscaloosa, AL native is a walking highlight reel and loves to feed off the energy of the crowd while playing. The Sipsey Valley High School standout is poised to become household name not only in the state of Alabama, but among the top players in the region. He is just starting to scratch the surface in terms of potential and he is up for the challenge.
Standing at 6’4, Russell is most deadly with the basketball in his hands. His ball handling skills are so far advanced that it is virtually impossible to rattle him with pressure. He can put it on the floor with either hand and he has the height to rise over smaller guards with his pull up jumper. He is very crafty around the basket, and can finish in multiple areas on the floor. His best attribute is his ability to score the basketball. His lightning quick first step makes it effortless to blow past defenders, and when he gets in the lane he knows what plays to make. He has put in work improving his range and now is developing the ability to show consistency from beyond the arc.
He does not only dominate from the offense end, but he can shut down opponents from the defensive end also. He averaged just over 3 steals a game last year and many of those came from his high-level basketball IQ and his ability to anticipate plays before they happen. He is excellent in the passing lanes and has quick hands that cause deflections which result in easy steals and transition buckets. This has allowed him to get some primetime exposure and begin to be in the radar of college programs.
This past summer he was able to land a scholarship offer from Division 1 program Alabama State. We fully expect this list to continue to grow as he continues to excel on the court and in the classroom.
