Jaelyn Brooks may not be a name stands out to most, but it is not something that he lets stand in his way of getting to his goal. He is someone who would rather spend time in the gym improving his skills rather than focusing on rankings and social media hype. This approach has caused him to steadily improve his game and make a case for himself to be the leader of a talented Round Rock High School program as well as one of the top talents in Austin, TX. His coaches and people in the community would also agree that he is just starting to scratch the surface in terms of potential.
Standing at 6’4, the 2022 standout is the perfect size and build to be an elite level talent. He is a very crafty with the ball and can score the basketball in bunches. He has above average athleticism and uses it to get to the basket with ease. He has a quick first step and can finish above the rim with contact if he is challenged. He has nice range on his shot and is steadily improving his shot to consistently be a threat from beyond the three-point arc. He passes the ball well and puts his teammates in positions to score the basketball when he faces double teams. He does not force the issue and has a great ability to let the game come to him. He seems to always make the right decisions and does not turn the ball over.
Defensively, he is highly active and defends on the ball very well. He uses his height and long arms to keeps smaller guards in front of him and moves his feet very well. He anticipates well and is always in the passing lanes getting steals or causing deflections. He rebounds the ball well and uses his boxing out principals as well as his leaping ability to secure rebounds and start the break. He is very intriguing prospect and schools in the region are starting to take notice and pay closer attention.
Over the next 12-18 months we fully expect for many of the division one and two programs in the area to make him a top priority of their recruiting efforts due to the fact he checks off all the boxes in terms of what is needed to compete at the next level. Look for his name to become a hot priority as he excels in the classroom as well as on the court.
