One of the top shooters in the entire Midwest, Will Smythe, recently picked up his second division one scholarship offer. The 6’4” senior shooting guard of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep and Reach Legends, received this offer from VMI. His first division one offer came over a year ago from in-state Eastern Michigan.

As well to succeeding on the hardwood, Smythe excels in the classroom. This has the senior looking at much more than basketball for his future school. “Academics is a big priority for me,” Smythe said. As a high academic recruit, he is being recruited by some of the top academic programs in the nation including Cal Tech, MIT, and University of Chicago. In addition, he has some interest from Ivy and Patriot League programs.

“I’m definitely looking for a place where I’ll be happy and there is a strong sense of brotherhood,” Smythe mentioned on what he is looking for in his future college. He also added in “I also want to challenge myself both academically and basketball wise too…I really value a coach who believes in me and can develop me to my full potential.”

“The coaches I’m talking to know that my best basketball is ahead of me and that means a lot,” Smythe added in when talking about the schools recruiting him. As a junior Smythe averaged 14.1 points and 4.1 assists per game.

Currently Smythe has no timeline on when he is looking to make a pick, but said he will “be ready to commit whenever I’m one hundred percent settled on a place that I think will be a good fit.”
