The fall of every calendar year usually brings with it a lot of visits both official and unofficial as well as a long list of commitments.  Unfortunately 2020 had a different plan and as such the visits aren’t happening this fall but commitments are still happening week in and week out.  The state of Wisconsin has had more than their fair share in the 2021 class and another domino fell today as talented guard Ben Nau of Brookfield Central High School verbally committed to Head Coach John Tauer and the University of St. Thomas of the Summit League.

Academics and wanting to be a part of building something were huge factors in the decision process for the 6-3 guard who also boasts a stellar 4.0 GPA.  “The feeling of being the start of something new and being the base of a program is something I found to be very appealing and a challenge I wanted to embrace, “ Nau said.  Adding, “Academics were a really big part in my decision and after learning about the high academic standards and all the opportunities St. Thomas brings I felt it was the best place for me.”

A strong connection to the staff and an exceptional campus and direction for the program was also very important for the talented guard who had a lot of choices and opportunities.  Nau chose St. Thomas over a long list of offers that included the likes of Miami (OH), Tennessee-Chattanooga, North Dakota State, Western Illinois, Indiana State, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, etc. over the past couple years.  Nau said “I really felt a strong connection with Coach Tauer and his coaching staff.  Learning about his vision, their team culture and his proven success made me want to play for him.”  He added, “The campus and the feeling at St. Thomas felt right immediately when I saw it and everything about the school and the opportunities it presented was a perfect fit for me and my family.”

Ben Nau played with the Phenom University-Team Herro program at the high school level after playing with the Ray Allen Select program in middle school where he helped them to an AAU national championship at the 14U level.
