One of the more exciting young scoring guards in the NY2LA Basketball Association this past spring, Springfield (Missouri.) Glendale 2018 shooting guard Monty Johal is a skilled scoring talent with unique ability to put the ball in the basket from often seemingly impossible situations. Holding three scholarship offers, Johal picked up his latest from Toledo at the end of the summer.
“It was a good feeling,” Johal told NY2LASPORTS.COM. “They showed up at a lot of my games, so that showed they have a lot of trust in me and are very interested in my game. I know they have pretty good facilities down there. I know it’s a good area too.” Johal has offers from Toledo, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Jackson State. He said the Rockets are currently recruiting him hardest.
Nebraska, LSU, Missouri, Belmont, IUPUI, South Dakota, Kent State, Indiana State, Missouri State, and Drake are all showing interest in Johal this fall. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound junior said a handful of programs appear serious about his services.
“Nebraska and Missouri for sure,” he said. “Indiana State as well and Drake has been consistent. I hear a lot about their programs and what they’re doing before the season. They’re also pitching the history of their programs.”
Johal has no visits scheduled for the fall. He will look to make a commitment next fall.
“I probably will make a decision after the summer, going into my senior year,” he said. “I’m just looking for a program that trusts my ability and is a natural fit. Where I can feel at home.”
Johal plays for Yanders Law during the grassroots travel season.
