East Chicago (Ind.) Central 2015 Point Guard Hyron Edwards is one of the more highly touted prospects in his class. Already holding three high major offers, we caught up with the talented sophomore on Wednesday to get the latest...
Hailing from the same high school as former Purdue star E'Twaun Moore, Edwards already holds early offers from Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue. He’s also received some recruiting advice from the former Boilermaker great.
"We worked out in the summer time," Edwards told NY2LASPORTS.COM. "He told me to go wherever best fits me. I'm just staying humble and hungry at the same time."
Illinois has grabbed Edwards' attention early on with their fast start on the basketball court and on the recruiting trail under Head Coach John Groce.
"When I got the offer, it was great," he said. "That's a big school. It's in the Big Ten as well. They have great players. They're recruiting great players too. It was just great."
Edwards has a solid relationship with the coaching staff at Indiana.
"Indiana is great," he said. "The coaching staff is good. They've been doing great. All the players are great. "
Edwards also feels close with Purdue. The sophomore isn't just close with the coaching staff, but the players on the Boilermakers' roster as well.
"Purdue is the same because I know most of the players," Edwards explained. "I'm real close with Matt Painter. He and I have a great relationship, just like all the other coaches recruiting me."
Edwards is also receiving interest from DePaul, Michigan, Michigan State, and Missouri.
The Spartans watched the 6-0 guard play last weekend and Edwards was in East Lansing last month for their win over Tuskegee.
"What caught my eye was Coach (Tom) Izzo," Edwards said about the visit. "That was my first time meeting him. I know Brandon Dawson as well. He's from the area, so me and him talk a lot. The visit was great."
Edwards thinks an offer from Michigan is just a matter of time as the Wolverines have shown a lot of love.
"Michigan, they're probably going to offer me next year," Edwards said. They want to wait until my junior year to offer.
"They have a lot of players from the region. I loved Michigan growing up. They've been very great to me."
Edwards played for Indiana Elite during the Grassroots season.
