Illinois scored big on the recruiting trail over the weekend as they landed coveted 2013 talent Kendrick Nunn on Saturday.  Nunn wasn’t the only major piece to come off the board as a number of big time prospects gave verbal pledges this weekend.  We look at that and more in our recruiting news and notes today…

COMMITMENTS
2013 SG Kendrick Nunn of Simeon Career Academy (IL) verbally committed to Illinois on Saturday.  Nunn took his official visit to Champaign this past weekend.  Nunn was the MVP of the 2011 NY2LA Sports Invitational and a Co-MVP for the 2012 Swish N’ Dish Spring Warm-Up where he helped lead his Meanstreets travel team to championships.  CHECK OUT VIDEO OF NUNN COURTESY OF NY2LAHOOPS.TV

2013 SG Robert Hubbs of Dyer County (TN) came off the board this morning as the scoring guard verbally committed to Tennessee.  Hubbs took his official visit to Knoxville this past weekend and committed on Monday morning.  He played with the M33M program during the grassroots travel season.  CHECK OUT VIDEO OF HUBBS COURTESY OF NY2LAHOOPS.TV

N.C. State struck big on the recruiting trail on Saturday as 2013 PG Anthony Barber of Hampton High School (VA) verbally committed to Coach Mark Gottfried and the Wolfpack.  Barber was exceptional at the annual NBA Top 100 Camp this past June and he played with the Boo Williams program during the grassroots travel season.  CHECK OUT VIDEO OF BARBER COURTESY OF NY2LAHOOPS.TV

Arkansas also made their presence felt over the weekend as 2013 C Moses Kingsley of Huntington Prep (WV) verbally committed to the Razorbacks on Saturday while on a visit there.  Kingsley played with the Arkansas Wings during the grassroots travel season.

Memphis Head Coach Josh Pastner had a busy week as he welcomed a daughter to his family earlier in the week and then he welcomed 2013 PG Rashawn Powell of Dr. Phillips (FL) to his team as the talented lead guard verbally committed to the Tigers on Saturday.  Powell played with the Florida Assault during the grassroots travel season.

The Pac-12 scored this weekend as well and this time it was Stanford as The Cardinal as they secured verbal commitments from 2013 twin guards Marcus and Malcolm Allen of Centennial H.S. (NV).  Both were on official visits to Stanford over the weekend.  Both played with the Arizona Magic during the grassroots travel season.

Georgia Tech struck on the trail as well on Sunday as the Yellow Jackets secured a verbal commitment from forward Quinton Stephens of Marist School (GA).  Stephens played with the Atlanta Xpress during the grassroots travel season.

The busy weekend jumped off on Friday as the Wisconsin Badgers struck on the trail by securing a verbal pledge from 2013 PF Vitto Brown of Bowling Green H.S. (OH).  Brown played with the Spiece Indy Heat during the grassroots travel season.

Massachusetts struck twice on Friday as they secured verbal commitments from 2013 PF Zach Coleman of Woodrow Wilson (TX) and 2013 SF Seth Berger of Ballard (WA).  Both committed to the Minutemen on their visits.  

RECRUITING UPDATES
2013 SG Xavier Rathan-Mayes of Huntington Prep (WV) narrowed his list of schools down to three on Friday.  The sharpshooting scoring talent will make his choice from Connecticut, Illinois, and Florida State.  Mayes played with the CIA Bounce program during the grassroots travel season.

2014 SF Josh Cunningham of Morgan Park (IL) has offers from Northern Illinois, Depaul, and Nebraska.  The talented forward is also getting interest from Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois, South Carolina, and Dayton, amongst others.  He plays with the Mac Irvin Fire during the grassroots travel season.

2015 G/F Kain Harris of Morgan Park (IL) has offers from Northern Illinois, South Carolina, and Kansas State.  Harris is also hearing from Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Depaul, Illinois, and Northwestern.  Harris plays with the Mac Irvin Fire during the grassroots travel season.

2014 PG Tyrone Taylor of Grandview (MO) has offers from Wichita St., Creighton, Northern Colorado, Indiana St. and Missouri St.  Arkansas, Tulsa, and Kansas State are also showing interest in him.  He played with the KC Run GMC program during the grassroots travel season.

2013 PF Alec Peters of Washington H.S. (IL) currently holds offers from S. Dakota St, IPFW, UIC, IUPUI, Albany, UW-Greenbay, UW-Milwaukee, Illinois St, Loyola, Valpo, Tulane, Drake, St. Louis, Rice, Boston College, S. Illinois, St. Bonaventure, W. Michigan, Butler, Air Force, Utah, and Washington St.  He played with the Peoria Irish program during the grassroots travel season.

2014 Michael Finke of Champaign Centennial (IL) added an offer from Bradley on Sunday.  He also holds offers from S. Dakota St, Nebraska-Omaha, N. Dakota St, UIC, SIU-E, Loyola, UWGB, E. Illinois, Illinois St, Wisconsin, and Iowa.  He’s also getting interest from Ball St, Boston College, Tennessee, Oregon St, Missouri, Purdue, Illinois, Stanford, and Rice.  He played with the Peoria Irish program this summer.

2014 G/F Jonathan Carson of Messmer H.S. (WI) is getting interest from Bucknell, Creighton, Lehigh, Miami (OH), North Dakota State, St. Leo, and St. Cloud State amongst others.  He played with the Playground Elite program this summer.

JUNIOR BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS FALL LEAGUE - #JRBOC2K12
The premiere middle school fall league in the state of Wisconsin returns for its second installment September 29-October 27th on Saturday evenings inside the M.S.O.E. Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The JR. BOC is open to 6th-8th grade boys (i.e. 2017-2019 prospects) and will once again feature skill sessions and full length games each week.  The league will be covered online by our middle school affiliate at GENERATIONNEXTBASKETBALL.COM as well as our Wisconsin affiliate at 414HOOPS.COM where we will recap each week with articles, statistical breakdowns, top performers, etc.  All games will be filmed and this year’s league will also feature video highlights and recaps at NY2LAHOOPS.TV.  Limited spacing is still available.  For more information including registration forms CLICK HERE

FUTURES CAMP - #FUTURES2K12
The annual hoops exposure camp moves to the fall this year on October 6-7, 2012 at the M.S.O.E. Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  This is the third installment of this camp which has already seen a host of big time alumni including, but not limited to, the likes of 2010 Camp M.V.P. 2013 SF Semi Ojeleye, 2012 Camp M.V.P. 2014 F/C Cliff Alexander, 2013 PG Duane Wilson Jr. (Verbally committed to Marquette), 2013 SF Deonte Burton (Verbally committed to Marquette), 2013 G/F Nick Fuller, 2013 G/F Collin Hartman (verbally committed to Indiana), 2014 SF Kevon Looney, etc. amongst others.  The camp is open to 2013-2016 prospects and will offer up skill work and full length game play with coverage by NY2LASPORTS.COM and other recruiting services in attendance.  The camp will also feature video highlights and recaps at NY2LAHOOPS.TV.  For more information on this including registration forms CLICK HERE

GENERATION NEXT TIP-OFF - #GNTIPOFF2K12
The annual middle school hoops spectacular returns for its third installment November 17-18, 2012 and it is open to boys 3rd/9U – 8th/14U teams once again.  It will feature a three game guarantee with 1st and 2nd place teams receiving customized individual trophies/medals and t-shirts once again.  The tournament will be covered online at NY2LASPORTS.COM as well as our middle school affiliate at GENERATIONNEXTBASKETBALL.COM and our Wisconsin affiliate at 414HOOPS.COM.  It will also have video highlights and recaps at NY2LAHOOPS.TV.  This tournament will also serve as a Qualifying tournament as part of the Generation Next Invitational Championships next summer and it offers multi-team discounts.  For more information including registration forms CLICK HERE
