Tyler Haney Talks First Scholarship Offer

Following a breakout grassroots season with the Wisconsin Swing, Tyler Haney received his first scholarship offer. The offer for the 6’1” point guard came from Valley City State University, a NAIA school located in North Dakota.

In his junior season at Sun Prairie West High School (WI), he averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game to earn second team all-conference honors. Then during the grassroots season, he helped the Wisconsin Swing win the NY2LA Sports Invitational and go 4-0 at the NY2LA Next Level Invitational.

“Excited and relieved knowing I have coaches who trust in me to play at their school,” Haney said about picking up his first scholarship offer. “I like the coaches at (Valley City State) and looking at pictures it seems like I will enjoy the campus at Valley City State.” Valley City State had also offered one his Wisconsin Swing teammates recently in Judson Henkel.

While he has not visited there yet, he is planning on doing so after his high school football season. He is also planning on visiting Ripon, St. Olaf, UW-Eau Claire, UW-LaCrosse, and UW-Stout. Some of the other programs recruiting him include Dominican, Edgewood, Lakeland, St. Norbert, among others.
