MEQUON — A closer look at some of the more underrated performances from the 2024 NY2LA Sports Summer Jam…
Manny Smith – 2025 – CG – Team X Magic
In a lot of ways, Smith is the straw that stirs the drink for Team X Magic. The 6-foot-2 combo guard just seems to do everything well and kept showing up in different areas — whether it was facilitating, offensive rebounding, running the transition break, or knocking down open shots.
Jabari Lee – 2025 – F – Team Herro NY2LA
Lee has a big upside and is just scratching the surface. A long, athletic, 6-foot-7 combo forward, Lee can make a big impact on a game when he plays with a high motor. He’s an effortless leaper who gets off the ground quickly, has long arms, runs the floor hard, and shows some flashes outside the paint.
Philip Meese Jr. – 2025 – G – Team Herro NY2LA
Meese came off the bench for Team Herro in Thursday’s win over Team X Magic and provided instant offense. The Milwaukee King guard can really shoot it from 3-point range and knocks down shots on the move. Team Herro runs a lot of sets for Meese where he can curl around a screen or come off a pin-down, set his feet, and let it fly. At 6-foo-2, Meese also converted on some tough finishes in the mid-range/close to the bucket. Meese put the game away in the second half with a flurry of buckets.
Fredrick Hassan – 2025 – SF – MXIV Hoops
A long, athletic wing who finished well around the rim, Hassan is a difference maker for MXIV Hoops. He’s got terrific size at 6-foot-7. Even if he catches in traffic, Hassan shows good patience and maneuverability with his feet. There’s a little junkyard dog in him too as somebody who wants to rebound on both ends and busts his butt up and down the floor looking to clean up the mess. Hassan is a fighter defensively too. Even though he’s quite raw physically, saw him battling for position against a much stronger and taller post prospect while holding his own and keeping his man off the rim.
Zach Winkeler – 2025 – G – Mid Pro South
Despite a loss to the Wisconsin Crusaders on Sunday, Winkeler came up big for Mid Pro South. The senior guard drilled a couple of huge 3-pointers consecutively that looked like they’d get his team a nice upset win. A gamer and competitor, Winkeler just brought it all game long. Didn’t matter if he was scoring or not, Winkeler played with a noticeable toughness and chip on his shoulder. He guarded the other team’s best player, worked him up and down the floor, and made his man earn everything he got as well.
Logan Steffensmeier – 2025 – PF – Wisconsin Crusaders
Steffensmeier has been progressing nicely and had a lot of good moments over the weekend. The Sheboygan North product really knows his role on the floor, but also makes some plays that you maybe don’t expect out of him. The 6-foot-7 forward is a strong, athletic kid who finishes well against contact, can protect the rim defensively, and displays good hands in traffic. Steffensmeier also shows some flashes of being able to step out and shoot the basketball as well. Thought he did a great job on Sunday of catching passes away from his body and going right to the rim without any hesitation, despite being challenged. Could be a really nice steal for a small school program.
Logan Zahour – 2025 – W – Chapman Basketball Academy
When the ball gets swung around the horn and Zahour can rip and go, it’s almost over. Really like the aggressiveness of the 6-foot-5 wing to explode from the 3-point line and score off one dribble. Starting to emerge as a prototypical swingman and perhaps one of the more under-recruited players in Wisconsin, Zahour is a high value prospect who shoots the ‘3’, defends at a high level, sticks his face in the fan as a rebounder, and just never turns off that motor. When good things are happening for CBA or when they’re on a big run, Zahour just always seems to be in the middle of it.
