After being one of the biggest stock risers this spring on the NY2LA Association playing with the Wisconsin Swing, Matt Buckman received his first scholarship offer. The offer for the 6’4” guard of Cambridge High School (WI) came following a recent visit to a division two program.
Hillsdale College was the first school to offer Buckman which came on his visit to the Michigan school on Wednesday. “I really enjoyed my visit,” the rising senior said. “All of the facilities were really nice, and the campus was great.”
“It feels amazing. Earning a scholarship has been my goal for a long time so it really is a dream come true,” Buckman said about receiving his first offer.” When talking about Hillsdale, there are already a few different things already that stand out to him. “I really liked the coaching staff there. I was very impressed with the facilities there and the strong emphasis on academics.”
“Versatile,” was the first thing Buckman said when describing his own game. “I can play the one and handle the ball, but I can only also play the three spot and guard players that are bigger than me. I can shoot it from the outside, but I also play well with my back to the basket in the low post as well as in the high post, mid-range area. I think I do a good job facilitating.” Buckman was a big key to all the success of the Swing this spring helping them get to the quarterfinals of the loaded Swish N’ Dish, an undefeated 4-0 record at the Next Level Invitational, and a championship at the NY2LA Sports Invitational.
Some of the other programs recruiting him include Concordia St. Paul, Upper Iowa, UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Platteville.
