MEQUON, Wis. – A look at the top 17U games to watch on opening night of the NY2LA Sports Next Level Invitational, which tips off on Friday…
Minnesota Comets Elite vs. D Rice Elite – 7:20 PM – Homestead Court 2
The Comets feature 2025 small forward Sam Hondl (Albany, Minn.), who holds scholarship offers from Minnesota-Moorhead, Minnesota-Duluth, and Bryant. This is a big, versatile lineup that should cause a lot of problems for opponents in Milwaukee.
Making their way over from Michigan, D Rice Elite has been creating some noise this spring. 2025 guard Corey Pittman (West Bloomfield, Mich.) is a player to know heading into the event. A strong, athletic guard who makes things happen in the open floor, Pittman is a high-riser that’s sure make a few highlight plays in Milwaukee.
Mid Pro Academy vs. Chapman Gold Elite – 8:30 P.M. – Homestead Court 5
Division 1, 2, and 3 coaches should be flocking to court 5 to see this one.
Mid Pro features a slew of Division 1 talent, including Dietrich Richardson (Peoria, Ill.), Kobe Walker (Normal, Ill.), and Matthew Zobrist (Metamora, Ill.). One of the most talented teams in the NY2LA Association, Mid Pro figures to be a title contender in July.
Chapman Basketball Academy will provide a big test, however. Featuring some of the best talent in the Milwaukee area, CBA is headlined by Devin Isaj (Greendale, Wis.), a skilled, three-level scorer with terrific size at 6-foot-5. Zach Behn (Kewaskum, Wis.), Luka Momcilovic (Pewaukee, Wis.), and Anthony (Brookfield, Wis.) round out a very solid lineup.
Team Temple vs. Fundamental U Select – 8:30 P.M – Homestead Court 6
Coming up from Texas, Team Temple is loaded with college prospects. Combo guard Jett Sutton (Lake Creek, Texas.) can absolutely go on the basketball. A prospect who wants all the smoke, Sutton has a mean step-back and creation game in halfcourt settings with a knack for hitting tough shots. Point guard Raken Vargas (Cypress, Texas.) has also drawn Division 1 and 2 interest as of late.
This won’t be Fundamental U’s top team, but still a squad worth checking on throughout the weekend. Shooting guard Sam Hanus (Deerfield, Ill.) has been making some noise this spring.
Wisconsin Swing vs. All-Ohio Select – 9:40 P.M. – Homestead Court 6
Another title contender taking the floor Friday night, Wisconsin Swing has a deep, experienced, and talented roster. Combo forward Drew Murphy (Verona, Wis.) leads the way. A skilled, multi-dimensional, sweet-shooting prospect, Murphy can get it done from all three levels. Eli Lindsey (Mineral Point, Wis.), Matt Buckman (Cambridge, Wis.), Judson Henkel (Waunakee, Wis.), Ben Forbes (Waunakee, Wis.), Tyler Haney (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and Kaden McKenzie (Waunakee, Wis.) are all names Division 2 and 3 programs should know as well.
All-Ohio’s second team, this group features plenty of hidden talent, including Caleb Schilling (East Canton, Ohio.), Mitch Finefrock (Masillion, Ohio.), Josh Henderson (Westerville, Ohio.), Josh Meyer (Rocky River, Ohio.), De’Arion Holley (Barberton, Ohio.), and Matt Meyer (Rocky River, Ohio.).
