Big Spring Ahead For 2026 Deuce Burkes

Amongst a stacked field of talented scorers at the recent NY2LA Swish ‘N Dish tournament, Deuce Burkes was one of the best. Even while playing with a loaded Team Herro with plenty of scoring options, the 6’3” guard had a few high scoring games including 26 points in the semifinals. The sophomore of Milwaukee Academy of Science is currently ranked fifth in the NY2LA Wisconsin class of 2026 rankings.

“The tournament was a good experience,” Burkes said about is play at Swish ‘N Dish. “It started out rough because I just got cleared two weeks ago after having a car accident back in November that left me with a shoulder injury.” Along with Burkes, Team Herro was able to capture the 16U platinum championship.

“I want the coaches to see that I understand the importance of the small things,” Burkes said about this upcoming spring. “Being unselfish, talking on defense, keeping my body language together. As far as my skills I want them to see my ability to stretch the floor with my shooting off the catch & off the dribble. That I’m a guard that’s willing to rebound. I want them to see me and know that I’m confident in what I do.” Over the past couple of years, he has consistently proven to be one of the top shot makers in the region.

Right now, the sophomore has four offers. They are from Grambling State, IUPUI, Nebraska, and Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Among the other schools recruiting him include Cincinnati, DePaul, Florida, Illinois, among others.

Most recently for visits, Burkes took one to Cincinnati. From the visit, the sophomore was a fan of the facilities of the Big 12 program. Up next for visits include ones to Illinois and Nebraska soon.
