Over the past year, Matthew Zobrist has developed into one of the more sought after mid-major recruits in Illinois’ 2025 class. Not only has the 6’5” two guard of Metamora High School and MidPro Academy seen plenty of recruitment interest but also plenty of success on the court.
The success on the court started in his sophomore season in which he played a big role in helping Metamora win the 3A state championship defeating Simeon in the title game. Then into the grassroots season, he was on the MidPro Academy team that won the 16U NY2LA Association Championship. Now into his junior season, Metamora is once again one of the best teams in the entire state with a 19-4 record while playing a very tough schedule.
Back in June last summer, Eastern Illinois became the first school to offer the sharp shooting guard. Since then, he has also added in offers from Bradley, Bryant, and Illinois State. Plenty of other programs have also been showing interest in the junior with some of the newer ones being Belmont and Miami (OH).
As well with his recruitment, Zobrist has taken a trio of visits. So far, he has taken them to Bradley, Illinois State, and Miami (OH). He called all three visits great experiences. As well to saying, “great staffs and great schools,” when talking about each of them.
“Main goal for this season is to go back and win the state championship again,” Zobrist has for goals moving forward. With Zobrist, along with Iowa commit Cooper Koch, Winona State commit Tyler Mason, and Luke Hopp, Metamora looks to be one of the favorites to capture the state championship this season.
