Greg Grays Breaks Down Detroit Mercy Commitment

From the past few years of being a star on the NY2LA Association in addition to being one of the top players in Michigan’s 2026 class, senior Greg Grays has now made his college commitment. The 6’2” guard of D Rice Elite and Brother Rice High School will be staying close to home with his commitment to Detroit Mercy.

Detroit Mercy was the first school to offer Grays which happened back in January of this year. His stock greatly grew in the summer where he picked up a trio of offers coming from Drexel, Oakland, and Saginaw Valley State. Over the summer he averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for D Rice Elite on the NY2LA Association.

“The coaching staff,” Grays first said about choosing Detroit Mercy. “They did a great job of showing their interest in me all through the live periods of spring and summer ball. They have some great players there that I’ve competed against and I think I can be another piece to help the team.”

The commitment comes after Grays had just visited Detroit Mercy very recently on September 27th and 28th. When asked about his visit, he said “I had a great time. I got a chance to see the team in their setting and could see the brotherhood. Everyone I encountered made me feel like family.”

On his future of suiting up for the Horizon League program, Grays said “The team has some great players and I see my game fitting right in with the guys. I’d like to compete every day and keep pushing each other to get better. I think this is the right situation to help improve all aspects of my game.”

“Being close to home definitely didn’t hurt the situation,” Grays said about the proximity to his future school. “I made the decision on how I thought I would fit and help the team out. I’m happy with where UDM is located. I will have my family, coaches Rick Palmer and Coach Rice, and the rest of my basketball community to help me navigate the next step.”

One last thing Grays added in on his commitment was, “I want to give NY2LA a huge thank you for supporting me as well.”
